Dré's Amsterdam Report 22-24/9

Post by Drenbt »

Shiit I can't believe a weeks passed already since I actually left to go and I haven't been able to do my write up on here yet! Partially to do with Lazyness and the recovery process after a heavy few days in Dam!

Also still sampling some of the smoke and awaiting another package to arrive on my doorstep :D . So I will do the first days write up a bit later when I'm not at work where I can relax with a fat spliff and type up....

Ok guys so here’s my report. I’ve already been back for 2weeks but have been so busy with work and stuff so my apologies to all. In fact I've taken so long that my next trip has crept right up on me. 7 days to go!!

Monday 22/10/08

Despite having my trip booked well in advance, the missus had some probs with her passport so she was unable to come with me. Rather than just leave it for another time and rebook thought sod it I might as well just go on my own. Something I was slightly apprehensive about as first. I left a couple days later than I was originally meant to and ended up at Luton Airport for the 6pm flight. As usual nothing goes to plan and my flight was delayed. Arrived at Schipol airport at about 9pm.Within half hour of touching down at Schipol airport I was leaving Centraal Station and walking down Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal towards Hotel Cornerhouse where I would be staying for the next couple of nights. I hotfooted it to the hotel to drop off my bags so I could get out and get weed purchasing!Whilst checking into the hotel at the bar downstairs, a rather worse for wear Scotsman by the name of Hugh struck up a conversation with me.Not wanting to appear rude I accepted his offer of a pint (well half pint cos thats just how they do it in Amsterdam strangely!) and had to endure his inebrieated conversation about my surname and its Scottish heritage. Now no part of me is Scottish, nor do I have anything against Scotsmen but I really had no intentions of sitting there all night, so I downed my beer and said my goodbyes. Dumping my bags in the room, I was back out onto the quiet evening Amsterdam street within minutes.

My first and last stop in Amsterdam has always been Rastababy’s and I held true to this tradition. The first thing I noticed about the menu is that the prices have gone up.It is usually a set menu with prices being 12.50, now everything is 15e.From reviews on this website regarding light bags I’ve had some doubts about this place but has always been a good vibe so thought why not.

I ordered 2.8g of Crystal for 15e- my favourite weed from here and sat in the conservatory where they have designated for smoking with tobacco. I must say I was not disappointed! The first spliff I have in Dam always hits me but this got me good! It was a nice trippy high that had me grinning like an idiot. Whilst I was chilling listening to the rather loud reggae music, I was approached by a rasta looking guy who was trying to sell me his CD’s. He told me it was him playing on the stereo when I knew full well it was an internationally known Jamaican artist called Movado. This set the alarm bells ringing and I made my excuses, finished my spliff of Crystal and left.

Studying the ACD map- I headed towards Rokerij a mere few mins walk away. Its been a while since I’ve been to Dam (about 2 and a half years) and to my knowledge I don’t remember ever visiting here before. I liked the layout of this place and it reminded me of the kind of place where you’d find a medieval fortune teller. I think maybe it was the Crystal making me hallucinate and confusing my brain. I ordered 1g of Laughing Buddha- A smoke I was well looking forward to for weeks leading up to the trip. I also got 1.7 of Malika Halua as recommended by the budtender. Another of my weeds that I’d been longing to try from here was Sour Diesel which unfortunately they had completely scrubbed off the menu. I asked the budtender what happened- he simply said he didn’t know and that maybe it was because a lot of coffeeshops are closing. Pissed! Didn’t chill or anything as the time was already nearly 10.30pm and I was eager to grab some more smoke and get back to the hotel.

I headed further down Haarlemstraat to grab some NYC Diesel from Barneys as this has been a fave of mine since my very first Dam trip. When I get there and look on the menu… No NYCD?!?! The budtender said that he didn’t know what happened to it but they had a strain called Red Diesel which smelt exactly the same. It had that trademark fruity, diesely smell that I’ve grown to love but can only get in Amsterdam so I purchased 1g. Forget how much I paid now but will do a summary at some stage when I remember.

Back out onto Haarlemstraat and to Dampkring a few doors down. I was in the mood for a milder type of bud so asked the budtender what he suggested for a nice mellow smoke. He suggested Jack Herer so I stocked up with a gram of the stuff and rolled it up for my walk back to the hotel. Before I left I asked what rifman hash he would suggest and he said the Shibani ( not to be mistaken for Shibani Polm variety). Upon coming back and reading the forum most have commented on his as being a tourist trap and a load of rubbish but I was obviously unaware of this whilst out there. I must say musta got a good batch though! Left Dampkring and started the 15min walk back to The Cornerhouse Hotel. Lighting up my spliff of Jack Herer I inhaled deeply and let the first effects wash over me. It really was a nice mellow high. ‘I wrote nothing special – but nice mellow high’ in my notebook so must have been ok!

Got back to the hotel and rolled up a big spliff of the Shibani and started to watch Con Air which was on telly at the time. I found this to be a full body strong stone that just creeps up on you, very nice smoke. I didn’t even completely finish the spliff and I fell asleep at around midnight….

I opened my eyes and looked at the time – 4.00 am! Seeing as I was awake and especially seeing as I was in Dam I thought what the hell might as well smoke one!I strapped up a spliff of Red Diesel. A very nice smoke, I just love that diesely smell & taste! Very similar to the NYCD from times past but not at strong it just didn’t seem to kick like I remember the authentic NYCD did. Was lovely none the less though. Pondering what to roll up next I opted for the Laughing Buddha from Rokerij. I just love the smell of this in the bag. It reminds me of my early days of smoking, I had a dealer who used to grow his own bud in his garage and his stuff was consistently top notch & very smelly. So I smoked away on a spliff of this and had a read of ‘Mr Nice’ – Howard Marks’ bestselling autobiography. Really is a good book, and considering my surroundings – so apt! The Laughing Buddha was an excellent smoke, and has a very heady high effect. I was feeling tired anyway so I’m not sure if this contributed to the effect of the weed but it knocked me out and I fell back to sleep at around 6am…

So thats my first evenings round up thus far. Heres a summary of purchases made, and this is in about 2hours!

Crystal - Rastababy
Laughing Buddha - Rokerij
Malika Halua - Rokerij
Red Diesel - Barneys
Jack Herer - Dampkring
Shibani - Dampkring

Day 2 will be upped very soon...
