Hi folks,

I'll be travelling in a few weeks to Germany (Karlsruhe) and plan to drive over to the Netherlands for the first weekend.

If I'm travelling privately by rental car, and staying in a smoking-allowed room in a typical hotel, what are the risks of problems taking a little bit back with me to Germany to enjoy over the remainder of the trip? And what would a "little bit" be in such circumstances?

you can take it back, its not too hard. just dont carry any papes or smoke-stuff with you so they dont see you are a smoker. hide the weed as good as possible and dont drive high, they wont stop you. in germany all kinds of papes etc. are available at any patrol station or market.
if they get you, try not to carry more than 5g with you.
