Hi,
I'm not one for debates or anything like that...it's just my girlfriends dad suffers from MS and we often let him have a little toke of a doobie....well...because it actually works.
He suffers from severe muscle spasms and it seems to help in that way, and also with the pain.
I've copied a link relating to the use of cannabis for MS sufferes, and just wondered what other people think...should it be legalised for medicinal purposes.....
P.S. I already know for a fact it should be legalised recreationally.....DAMN YOU GORDON BROWN
Thanks for taking the time to have a look....even if you don't, would be interested in what you all think

I'm more than for it for genuine illnesses like MS (I've seen first hand it helping a MS sufferer) but the biggest problem would be the abuse, imagine the number of stoners who would say it helps with this, that or the other if it did get legalised for medicinal purposes.
Do you mind if I move this into the legalisation section of the forum? Off topic doesn't feel like the correct place for something so important?

In four days, more than one-fourth of all U.S. states will have defied the federal ban and instituted medical marijuana laws, after Michigan passes it and becomes the 13th state to do so.
The last original colony, you might say, in what eventually will become a much broader union.
The old guard is losing its grip. It's my generation's turn.

for good information on MS and medical cannabis, go and google montel williams. he is a big advocate for medical MJ and works with the MS society and has his own site. they have all the information down. and BTW boner, there are at least a dozen or so legitimate uses for medical cannabis (aids and cancer relief, glaucoma, MS, digestive illness like IBS). just try googling "cannabis and IBS" for example. other treatments may work for those ailments as well but shouldnt the sick person be allowed to choose? (more rhetorical really i think you agree on that) it sounds odd but cannabis has even been proven affective in asthma patients. and to you CJ, NY may well become the 14th state. a medical marijuana bill has twice past in the state assembly but blocked by the senate. it is due to come up again after this election and it looks like the balance of power in the senate may shift so they cant block another vote. plus we have a govenor who has indicated his support, as he suffers from glaucoma and would probably smoke if he could.

Nirvana - I know there are legitimate uses for medicinal mj and I'm all for it for people with those illnesses the problem is a lot of people in the UK would all of a sudden have various ailments so they could get it on prescription, we wouldn't do it like you do in the US with the compassionate clubs it would go through the NHS which is where the abuse would kick in.

well CA is the only state with compassionate clubs, and in some cases people with hangnail can buy some pot there, so its not perfect. also most states here that allow medical mj have a list of specific ailments and diseases that it can be reccomended for by a dr. saying i have "anxiety" or "i cant sleep at night" just doesnt cut it. the people that get it need to have some serious problems that cant just pop up, IE MS. the only problem is with distribution in the other states as the sick are allowed to grow and possess but purchasing is technically still ilegal.
