Zeppelin flights over conservation area approved

People who wish to fly over the Wadden Sea in Zeppelin airships to see the wetlands habitat will be able to do so for a cost of EUR 250.

THE NETHERLANDS - The Council of State, the highest Dutch government advisory body, has ruled that trial flights of Zeppelin airships can take place over the Wadden Sea.

The body of water and coastal wetlands is separated from the North Sea by the Dutch Frisian Islands and is considered an important conservation area.

Local environmental groups are fiercely opposed to the flights, fearing the lives of birds and seals will be disrupted.

The Wadden Sea Zeppelin Association plans to fly tourists over the area to let them see the wetlands habitat. Each flight will carry 11 passengers at a cost of more than EUR 250 each.
