Squat Restaurants

Post by DjoNada »

Hi there.

I'll be in Amsterdam from November 20th until December 3rd.
What can you tell me about the squat restaurants there? Are they cool? Do they make tourists feel confortable??
Can someone name the best ones and their locations?? Any experiences you can share??

Can't wait to be there... :D

You must do a little research about squat restaurants in Amsterdam.

Anyway... My questions still pose.

There are some listed in the Cool Guide to Amsterdam. As well as Underwater Amsterdam ,which is under construction at the moment. Haven't been to one yet. From what I hear it's best to call ahead. I was going to hit one when I was there in 2006, but they were serving vegan food only that nite. Good luck.

Thanks geoffk...

Yes, I'm aware that you (almost always) must call ahead.
I know about a few of them by now, but I couldn't find any in "Underwater Amsterdam"...

The site is under construction right now. They have listed them in past. When I get home later, I'll look in my book. I've only been to one squat in the docklands, which was demolished to make way for upscale stuff. That was in 2000, but they had no restaurant.

Thanks a lot, darkglobe!

http://www.radar.squat.net/ This is a really cool site I didn't know of.

Yeah... De Peper (Overtoom 301) is one of the most famous.

Well... here goes the ones I already knew about before opening this topic:

Baker Arend (Plantage Doklaan 8 )
De Peper (Overtoom 301)
Einde van de Wereld (Javakade, KNSM Island)
The Fridge (Frederick Hendrikstraat 111)
Zaal 100 (De Wittenstraat 100)

Has no one ever been to a squat restaurant?
