finding a deal on airfare

Post by ramses »

I've been looking around for a good deal and the best I can find is a little over $1000 u.s. Anyone know of any better travel search engines than the big ones, maybe how to get coupons or discounts, anything? It's been a few years since I traveled and I can't believe how prices have gone up with fees and taxes! I'll be leaving from Indianapolis,IN first week of Sept.

I like to use kayak,it does a nice search of dozens of sites. You will also find that rates will drop lower as you get 3-4 months from your desired date. Buying 10 months in advance will only get you premium price listings. Also if it is possible, have you given any thought to traveling in the off peak season(December-March) it is colder weather but the crowds are less and prices are really discounted,I have made all my trips to Amsterdam during this time and loved it. I just bought my ticket today for the first week in March leaving South Bend,IN for $670.00 round trip.

Wow, can't beat $670! I thought about going in offseason, but I'd really like to trek the city and not freeze my balls or buzz off. I've never been before so I'd like at least mild weather, don't really care if it rains or not. I'll check out the site though, thanks.

One other site you might consider is Priceline.com They have a "Name your price" section where you enter the amount you are willing to pay for a ticket. Airlines will sometimes agree your price for a nice discount. The only downside to it is that if they do agree to the price you asked, you are obligated to buy it.
