The Hague to introduce tough litter fines

Litter bugs will be fined EUR 95 if they are caught throwing cigarette ends or spitting out chewing gum in the city.
THE HAGUE – People throwing cigarette ends or spitting out chewing gum onto the streets of The Hague will be liable for a fine of EUR 95 from 2009.
The draconian new policy will be enforced by special officers.
In 2007, The Hague city council launched its 'Clean The Hague' campaign. As part of the clean-up effort, teams of cleaners are being deployed around the city and more rubbish bins are in use.
