Carrying toiletrys in handluggage ?

I was wondering if it is ok to carry such things as toothpaste and shower gel and other toiletrys in handluggage, as im not sure if these items must be packed in "checked in luggage" i am planning on hand luggage only but am not sure of the current security situation, were i think in the past these items have been confiscated from people carrying them in there hand luggage, but i am not sure !
If anyone is certain, then i would very much appricate any advice.

xxxcronicxxx - you have to put your toiletries in a clear plastic bag... hang on;

These liquids must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each. You must pack these containers in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity.

There we go...

They usually have a load of these free plastic bags at the security points, so if yours is getting a bit tatty (like mine) you can slip everything into a nice new fresh one.

Travel size bottles are quite easy to find on Ebay, and toothpaste can be easily be bought in smaller tubes... the only thing I've ever found hard to find is a decent anti-perspirant/deodorant type spray in a 100ml size, so I have a little roll-on one that I use when I'm travelling light.
