Amsterdam trip, Jan 3-11 2006

Post by marcw84 »

Yes I know, well overdue, but with school and all, I've been busy. Anyway, on to the story. I was smart enough to bring a small notepad to keep track (got the idea from Valo, thanks friend!). I had done a lot of research on the different coffeeshops and the areas on this website prior to our departure. What a great website. Much information and everything is a must read for those traveling who are not familiar. My friends and I (4 of us) partied hard the night before at our hotel. We knew it was going to be a great trip and we had to start it off right. We took off the next day (Jan 3). I must say that I was very impressed with SAS airlines. Very smooth flight, great service, and comfortable seats. We arrived in Copengagen and 2 hours later took off for Amsterdam. At 9:30 a.m. Jan 4, we had arrived and were extremely excited. None of us had been to Amsterdam before. Schipol airport is HUGE, much larger than the airports here in the States. We made our way to the ticket counter and purchased the extremely cheap (4 euros and change I believe) train tickets to Central station. It was a great 15 minute ride. We took in much of the sights along the way. We arrived soon after, stepped out of the beautiful train station, and took a smell of the air. Crisp and clean, the way it should be everywhere. We started walking towards what I soon found out was Warmoestraat (spelled that correct I hope) and I smelled it. Oh, glorious smell. We knew we trully had arrived :). I also noticed Central to my left. I really wanted to go right in but we knew we had to find our hostel first before getting ripped. My friends had to hold me back haha. After 15 minutes of confusion, which seemed like forever, we found our hostel.

Our Hostel- The White Tulip, Warmoestraat

It was ok. We had a 4 person room which was nice. No worries about late night stragglers. The location was perfect. We went upstairs to find the room to be just ok. There was an old towel hanging in the room. Yuck, but we survived. After cleaning ourselves up and situating our bags, we went down the extremely steep stairs to the street. Again, it smelled great. Our first stop was Route 66, which is a few steps away from the hostel. We took several pictures out front, definitely tourists haha, but hey you can't find stuff like this in New Jersey. We went inside and much to our delight it was empty. We took a table close to the bar and looked at the menu. FYI very good looking budtender :). Our first smoke in Amsterdam. We got 2 grams of Bubblegum (12 euros). After a few hits we were feeling so great. It was a feeling that has no description. You can only exeperience it for yourself to know what I'm talking about. It was a great taste/feeling. We walked and flew down Warmoestraat to a Chinese place. I don't remember the name but it was very good. After eating we went back for a much needed nap before the night's festivities. Went to bed around 2 and woke up around 8. We showered then headed again down to the street. There were much more people out at this time. We went to the Greenhouse Effect, also very close, and bought 2 spacecakes (1 banana, 1 chocolate- 3.50 euros each). We didn't want to overdue it so we split them. DELICIOUS. We also stopped in The Coin. Got 1 gram of Northern Lights (8 euros) and 1 gram of Skunk (6 euros). Very good. We ventured into the Red Light District as well. All I can say is WOW! I saw people going in and out of the booths like it was nothing. And I guess it really is nothing. I've just never seen such a thing before. Beautiful women. We contemplated but couldn't get ourselves to do it heh. No worries, a great and safe experience that everyone should check out on a trip to Amsterdam. Around 2 a.m. we went back to the hostel and called it a night.

Day 2
We slept most of the day. We were all kind of upset about it but between the lack of sleep the last 2 nights it was due to hit us sooner or later. We went to some steak place for dinner (off Damrak). It was good until I found a fly in my already eaten potatoe. Nasty. We soon found Kadinsky. We got 1 gram of Cream hash (7 euros). Veryyyy good. This was also my first hash experience. I liked it a lot. We also bought 1 pre-rolled pure White Widow 0.5 grams (5 euros) and enjoyed that in the shop. I also got take out, 1 gram of AK-47 (8 euros). On the way back to the hostel we stopped back into the Greenhouse Effect to buy 4 spacecakes for our train ride the next day to Paris. Back in the hostel we mixed the rest of the Cream hash with the AK-47. Wow, intense. I loved it. I'm very glad we were in our room and that we had it to ourselves because we could not handle ourselves in public at this point haha. It was good times, talking of good times past and wishing that everyone in the world could experience what we were doing in the place we were doing it. It was a very good, spiritual time for us. We met 2 American girls next door and they came in for a smoke with us. Good people. One of them handed us 2 bon bons from Abraxas. We split them between the 4 of us. Wow were we feeling it. Around midnight we decided to eat the spacecakes. We just decided to stay up most of the night because our train was at 7am that morning.

Days 3, 4, 5
We went to bed for about 2 hours then woke up. We were still all really stoned. The walk to the train station was great. We took the train, arrived in Paris at 11am. Paris was great. Spent Jan 6, 7, and the morning of the 8th there. Saw the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph, and other beautiful sites. Great time.

We arrived back in Amsterdam at 2pm Jan 8. We checked back into the White Tulip (got the same room). We then decided to walk the other side of Damrak. We saw some great headshops and great coffeeshops, but I was on the lookout for Rastababy. I forgot to print out a coffeeshop map from this website which I kicked myself later for. We eventually spotted it and realized how close it was so Central Station. I jumped in there real quick and got 2.8 grams of K2 (12.50 euros). Great deal. We took it back to the hostel and rolled up 2 fatties and enjoyed them. What a different high it was, our bodies were so still. It was great. We gathered ourselves after a shower then headed back down to Route 66, which we later agreed would be our local hangout. We got 2 grams of Crystal (12 grams). Another top notch smoke in my opinion. We went to the Erotic Museum, Marijuana/Hemp Museum, and had KFC for dinner. We also saw a Sex Show. I didn't like it and would rather have spent my 25 euros on some smoke, but it was a good experience I guess. My 3 friends stayed there for awhile and I grabbed a beer on Warmoestraat (I think it was Hill Street Blues?). Very nice bartender, had a long conversation about life. Great guy. My buddies came out around 12. After another stroll through the Red Light District and some more smoking in the room, we went to bed.

Day 6
We had an early buffet breakfast at a place on Damrak. For 8 euros, it was pretty decent. We had decided that this would be our tourist day and save the coffeeshops for later. We hit up Madame Tousand, Anne Frank House (my favorite, my friends favorite as well), Van Gogh Museum, then had Hard Rock Cafe around 5pm. After dinner we hopped on a tram back to the Damrak area. Down a small alley was Abraxas. 2 friends got milkshakes (banana and chocolate, 5.40 euros each) 1 friend got a brownie (3.70 euros), and I purchased 1 gram of Zero Zero hash (8 euros). Everything was delicious. We went back to our hostel. 1 guy was really feeling it from the milkshake and the other felt the brownie so they decided to stay in. Myself and the other decided to hit a new coffeeshop on our street (keep it close in case we got too stoned heh). We tried Sheeba which was also very close. We bought 2 grams Purple Haze (12 euros). We always thought of this as a classic smoke and were excited to try it. It was good. Good smoke, easy on our throats. I didn't think I could get anymore higher, but that put me up there :) and I was loving it. I didn't have to worry about driving my car or having any set place to go. We wandered and it was great. I also purchased a small 5 euro bowl to use for the last day, which is something I should have done first thing. No worries though. We went to bed around 2 a.m.

Day 7
Ah, our last full day. We were going to make the most of it. 2 of us had breakfast at Mcdonalds and 2 others had hot chocolate at Route 66. We all eventually met and all had hot chocolates. Delicious. We then made our way to Central coffeeshop. The budtender was SOOOO NICE. Great guy, explained each strain. Also brought out the box. Wow, we took a boatload of pictures hah. We decided to go with 2.4 grams of Bioskunk (12.50 euros). Another great deal. Great smoke. We took a table towards the counter and were there for a good amount of time. The budtender came over to us and showed us how to roll a joint with a filter. He let us sample his, which was filled with Snow White. Nice smoke as well. Great music and good atmosphere, but what made it was the guy. Again, SOOO NICE. We went to a desert place at the begining of Warmoestraat. Good place. We went into Baba headshop. I got a beautiful wooden box with a key lock for 20 euros. It would have costed at least 40 American if I bought it here. We then made our way to the Twilight Zone. We got a pre-rolled pure joint 0.5 gram White Widow (5 euros). Good strain again. I liked the big table by the window we were sitting at. We got to see the people passing by. After some walking around and souvenir shopping, we went back to Abraxas. 2 more milkshakes (strawberry and banana) and I bought 1 gram of Juicy Fruit (8 euros). We all tried it and were all impressed. I almost bought another gram of Neville's Haze (11 euros) but knew I couldn't finish it before we left and didn't want to leave any behind. We went and strolled the red light district again. Our friend almost got one but decided not to. Oh well, maybe another time. Like I said before, great experience to be around there. And for the record, IT IS SAFE! JUST SAY NO TO STREET DEALERS AND THEY WILL GO AWAY. We are all from a very small beach town and aren't used to city life. We were all ok though and had no problems with pickpockets or street dealers. No worries, just be smart :). Around 1 a.m. we went back to the hostel. All of us were stoned and we finished the Juicy Fruit. We hung out, chatted, showered and got our stuff together for our 7 a.m. flight back to Newark via Copenhagen. On the train ride to the airport I said farewell to Amsteradam. What a great time.

If I could change one thing I definitely would have remembered to print out the coffeeshop map haha. We also would probably stay at a nicer place heh. Here's what we spent total:

Pot: 15.7 grams=140.05 euros
Hash: 2 grams=15 euros
Edibles: Cakes-6-21 euros
Milkshakes-4-21.60 euros
Brownies-1-3.70 euros
Bon bons-2-Free, given to us

Total Cost of Fun: 201.35 euros, and worth every penny. Our next trip will be next summer 2007 with more friends from home. I want to go sooner but might just save up more money to go all out on a hotel. From what I read it's beautiful to go in the summer. See you in 2007 Amsterdam.

Also, thanks for everyone's help with all the tourist ban rumors and all that. Whatever, don't believe it. "That's all I have to say about that."

:D Sounds like a fine trip my good man. Nice report with all the important info and not many reports around that include mini European tours either. :D

I've been to most of the coffeeshops you sampled although I've spent nowhere near the kind of money on gear that you guys managed. A great effort there.

I have to say that the 99 shop was one of my favourite hangouts, especially early in the morning. Nice big shop with nice big tables and nice and quiet.

:D Thanks for bringing back a lot of good memories for me :D

Man... sounds like a fun trip. Though, knowing myself, I would have been out at as many coffee shops as possible instead of kicking it in a hotel room ;)

Wandering blitzed through the streets of Amsterdam at night sounds like fun to me ;) It's not everyday you can be stoned off your ass and walk openly down the street knowing everything is going to be ok!

If I wanted to get blitzed and chill in a room all night then I would stay in the states!
