This question is sooooooo strange but that's because im from England I see your from the states do they not do a ban I know Canada do.
Basically it is against the law to smoke in a public place i.e somewhere where a none smoker could be working or would have no other choice but to be subjected to your smoking.
So it;s a no to hotel's, restaurant's, taxi's, pub's. supposidly coffeeshops although it's hardly enforced.
If your nor in a public place i.e outside i n the street, in a park, in your own house its perfectly legal to smoke.
However, this is where it can get confusing, if a plumber for instance came into your house to fix your taps that's his place of work so he could ask you to stop smoking even though it's your house
That's the law in England and the Netherlands the only difference in the Netherlands is they have allowed a business to set up a private smoking room where staff members can't go in therefore you can smoke.
There are a few coffeeshops in Dam which do this.
Hope this answer's your question honestly don't worry about it you can smoke where ever you want outside only dodgy place could be a bus shelter.

Yeah, I don't really smoke either, but I might on my trip. I'm from rural Indiana and you can smoke almost anywhere. Some of the bigger cities are starting to enforce smoking bans, but since I don't really smoke I don't pay attention to them much. I just don't wanna light a smoke over there and get a damn ticket or cause any problems.
