KLM extends text message boarding cards
09 March 2009
Passengers on most European flights with Dutch airline KLM will no longer need a paper boarding card from Tuesday. The airline is extending a trial with boarding cards sent to mobile phones as SMS or MMS messages.
After checking in online, passengers receive a barcode on their mobile phone. This is scanned at the gate, and passengers then only need to show their passport to board the flight.
The service is adapted to different types of phone. Simple phones receive the code by SMS, while advanced models receive an e-mail or a picture via MMS.
