Railways tickets for sail on internet
16 March 2009
The Dutch Railways company has announced that it is to begin trials of ticket sales on the internet. The company says there is considerable demand for such a service. It also says it wants to encourage travellers to use more trains outside the rush hours by offering cheaper off-peak tickets.
People who buy a ticket via the internet will be asked to provide their name and date of birth at the time of purchase. Conductors who check the tickets on trains will then ask for proof of identity. The company says this is necessary to prevent fraud.
