if you really dont know it:
mellow yellow is supposed to be the first coffeeshop in amsterdam (some say MY, some say it was Rusland....) and the Bulldog chain says they were the first after them.
Rusland was the first to be issued an official license, Bulldog claim they were the first coffeeshop to sell (which I think is bullshit) but Mellow Yellow seems to be that shop but it was in a differant location.

Yea Rusland`s green badge on the door is number 1,I take it mellow yellow were the 1st to open & sell but rusland were the 1st ones to legaly get a licence?,& as for bulldogs claim its the 1st of heard of this.

thats one reason I like it so much. you come near and everytime we have someone with us who hasnt been to Adam, I tell him this was the first shop in Amsterdam and it goes like "wow...", when you know it, you can somehow feel the amount of stash that has been fired up there in the last 35 years....same with bulldog, even if its a tourist trap now, the atmosphere there is something special, because it has been around for so long.

I appreciate that Mellow Yellow was the first but there isn't any nostalgia for me as the actual location of the shop has changed.

According to this: http://www.cannabislegal.de/international/nl-nol.htm it was at Weesperzijde 53, I might take a bike ride down there in April to have a little look around.
