Drug Driving! Have you been stopped yet? UK ONLY

Just been sittin with my mate Kev (top boy in London) ... we covered a few really dodgy missions today (whilst stoned; smoking in the car too), in his GOLF (Black) which we all know is a bit of a pullover by popo...

He's not a nutter driver or anything like that, in fact he's quite safe in that department... But me and my crew are HOT... Flames in fact!

So, once the missions were over and we got back to our chillpad he just asked me if I knew anyone who had been pulled over by police in the UK for Drug Driving since the new legislation concerning "DRUG DRIVING" were passed recently?

I got curious as to the procedure... And I have questions...

1 How do they test us for drugs?
2 How accurate are the tests?
3 Can the tests determine when the Drugs were taken?
4 Can the test differentiate between Drugs?
5 Does the test determine how much of the substance is still in your system?

Also, it would be interesting to know about the penalties for being caught Drug Driving! If anyone has the information then please do post here - we need to be on top of things so we don't go under if ya na am sayin!!!

I've been done for Drink Driving in the past and lost my licence for a year - so I gave up drinking and smoked harder... now they make it so we can't blaze good haze whilst driving... Next they'll be banning the use of ashtrays in cars and renaming them "coin trays" or "travel sweet compartment" or something sissy like that...

Yes, its just as illegal to be drug driving now, than it is to drink and drive.
The police view anything which can distract, limit concentration and limit your reactions, while driving as illegal; hence you cant be on the phone, watching TV/DVD or drink and drive.
As far as I know the penalties are the same;
If you are pulled over and they suspect you are under the influence of any substance, you can get points, a fine, lose your car or your lisence.

The police as yet dont have any roadside testing methods, as the technology is not that advanced. Obviously if they see you are stoned or think you are; example: your drivings a bit erratic, your all forgetful and red eyed in front of the police; They will arrest you.

If you have been smoking in your car and they smell it, they will search for roaches, baggies, substances and other related items (grinders, pipes and such). They will confiscate and use this as evidence.
Worst case is that they find you smoking, possesing or ejecting a controlled substance.
Which they will arrest you for.

They will possibly give you a urine, blood or hair sample back @ the nick, this will determine if you have smoked recently. The most accurate is hair, which can be translated to a few days and blood which is slightly less accurate.
They can also multi test urine, which can pick up THC and a range of other substances. Blood is accurate for this and can pick up even more and can find out how heavy you smoke.
What ever you have taken, they will know what you have taken and how much.

I know you can lose your lisence for this offence and the penalties are the same as alchol, plus the charges of a class B substance. (even if they dont find substance (depends how much evidence is in your wheels!))
I also know you dont have to be smoking (if you are driving), to get arrested and charged. same as the dinking law.

Hope this helps, Ive only been pulled smoking and riding my push bike and i had that impounded (got it back), but I got a slap on the wrist, a fine and i had to pay for my bike to get released. I also had to get tested, only abit of pee (but it can be blood).....My advise, dont get caught!

Driving stoned is stupid same as drink driving really, I've done it and paid the price but that is another story for another day.

But the police did have the swabs a couple of months ago, not sure how accurate they were though...

I put yes, as i have said before. I was stopped many years back and taken to the station for a blood test. This is how they did it back in the early 90s.
Not been stopped since then so cant comment on the new methods but the old methods did not catch me.
If it is walking the line then i might have problems as i cant walk straight anyway

In the US urine testing is widely used. I think it's the cheepest test. The problem with weed is it collects in your fatty tissue and remains in your system for about 30 days. So even if you wait a week or two to drive you still test positive. I believe the testing issue is another major stumbling block towards legalization. An inexpensive portable test method neeeds to be perfected that instantaneously measures the level of intoxication of the driver similar to an alcohol blow test.

I've been stopped on a couple of occasions over the years, and been breathalysed, but never had any situation where it was suspected that i'd taken drugs.
