I always say - look at the buds and smell them too if you havbe the opportunity to. I actually took my mini micro-scope (X60 -X100 zoom +focus) and check the state of the trichomes... Which I know is taking it a bit too far.
The Utopia Haze, When I tried it in January 2009 was the dogs danglies dudes... I didn't even know about it until LiquidSwords bought a gram of it.
I loved it - ... But one thing I will say here now, When I went in November 2008 - I got a gram of LA Confidential from Barney's - Which was a nice and lovely smoke - but when I went back to Barney's in Jan2009 for the LA Con (think around 10euro a gram) - it was shite...
People, what's good one week, may not necessarily be true for the following week...
However - I guess it's unanimous when I say that the "Super Silver Haze" is the benchmark for hazes...

I would have taken it back and caused stink mate - These plants are supposed to be Sensimilia - Virgin Weed... Seedless!
Once a Cannabis plant makes seed - it puts all its energies into it, and the herbs will taste shit, have virtually no stone effect, maybe leave you with a headache (coz you smoked a crushed seed by accident) that's just not on people...

Wasnt my buy man, i formed my view on Barneys a while ago, seems that the view is standing up to the test of time. I would love to be proved wrong.

Yeah, Barney's buds are usually primo, but I've had this experience in another coffeeshop also - just can't remember which Coffeshop or what weed it was that needed a better cure off. When the joint was burning, I could hear hissing and crackling (tell tale signs of a bad flushing schedule?) and then it was hard to pull on, the ash at the tip of the joint was black and hard (signs of bud rot?) ...
I'm of the opinion that just because Cannabis has been decriminalised in Holland, it doesn't mean that there is strict governmental quality control overlooking the manufacture and finishing of the product. It's always best to ask someone in the CS what they're smoking and what they recommend, maybe ask about a strain you are considering and guage their reactions.
Overall though I find barney's to have good bud even if their prices are stupidly expensive - and their breakfast...

I more meant i dont think the weed is Barneys is all that, prices are silly high, staff are grumpy twats and you feel like a sardine in there. Barneys used to be a cool place apprently, i first went there when it was not as commerical as it is now, about 4 years ago, not at its best even then im told. But the food was good, the veggie breakfast was one of the best in amsterdam. The weed was also good, nothing spectuala, but good and well priced none the less. It is now too expensive, weed quality is below what i would get if other more friendly and chilled out places. Last time i went there i bought some Cherry Bomb, apprently a strong indica. Did not taste anything like Cherry, more a harsh taste which was in no way enjoyable and the high was servely lacking. On top of a stupid price for a shit cup of coffee and having someone pull a whitie next to me in the sardine like conditions,i did not have a good time. This was the final straw, the place i go to meet other tourists is Dampkring, this is because their bud is good, if not very good and the prices anit too bad.

Thanks chaps ....... my shopping list has now doubled
And I know I'm going to have some fun exploring these smokes
Having had a ponder on it, these are the kind of effects that I am after:
~ A mild or moderate body stone with nice physical tingly feelings in body and brain, but without couchlock
~ Feeling creative and inspired
~ Also feeling very relaxed (but without the energy-drain)
~ Able to have some level of relaxed concentration, without zoning out into emptyness and oblivion
~ A great smooth taste that wont send my airways into spasm
~ Able to still talk
~ Something that encourages my mind into the finer aspects of life, philosophy, humour and exploration.
That and the indefinable sense that the weed has got some kind of personality to it. Some kind of presence and character.
I dont know if this makes sense to people? Maybe its just me searching for my own version of the ideal cannabis high, which may not exist outside my own imagination.

That was me who posted about the seeded Utopia Haze. It was awful. It was during the Cannabis Cup too, what a fuck up. There is also a video online from someone getting seeds in the Utopia Haze from Barney's during the CC. Interestingly, we also got seeds in the Grey Martian from Grey Area.

Can't beleive that happened during the Cannabis Cup - aweful. But F ups like that arent uncommmon during the HTCC events.
Remember 2007? The whole Ouki Kabouki scandal? Two NewYrokers bought an ounce of the Super Silver Haze (I think) from a reputable CS and kept it for a cure for a further 6 months. Thyen entered it in the HTCC as a strain called Ouki Kabouki (not sure of the spelling) where it took 2nd Place? I saw this on a Cannabis Cup dvd which I've got at home... I was kinda shocked and sickened at the audacity of these two stoners who thought they'd play a practical (and not funny) joke on the organisers of the event and their lack of procedure vetting the strains.
Needless to say, after this fiasco - things changed and a stricter standard was implemented. At least that's what i'm led to beleive...

That was a joke pulled off by Steve Hager, it showed how commerical the CC has got to me, i was hugely disappointed that it also seemed to suggest that the peace and love has truely been lost from the CC. It looked more like a rap battle rather than something which would i feel represent the cannabis community, as far as im concerned if someones got good weed, ask nicely for a couple of tokes, if it really nice buy some. Theres no need for all this macho ego based bullshit i think the nature of competition has been taken to a stupid level.
The CC in my view does not represent cannabis culture in the slightest, its a pissing context these days. You look at how they done it in Nimbin, it was a group of stoners sitting around smoking some good buds in chilled atomsphere. Rather than the lights and show of the current HTCC. The cannabis community can best be represented in the act of sitting in Vondel Park in a circle and passing a joint, rather than this whole ' my weeds better than your weed if you think any different then we're going to throw down like its 8 mile up in this bitch. ' Its fucking stupid.
I am aware that i have previously defended the cannabis cup, but i see it in the same way i see the English national athem, do i think the anthem truely reflects england in the best way? No. Am i going to sing that bad boy because it reflects a part of who i am, you bet your sweet arse i am.
