Central Coffee Shop is Exceptional!

In preparing for my first trip to Amsterdam, I spent hours on the Internet reading coffee shop reviews. This might have been my first coffee shop experience, but I have been smoking herb for over 30 years and wanted to make sure that I found the right place, with the right bud, the right atmosphere and a friendly staff. I read a lot about Central being a non-touristy place, which appealed to me, and also read many comments about it being the place where locals stop by after work to pick up their evening smoke. I thought this might be mostly due to its proximity to Centraal Station, but would discover that it is just a great place to buy and chill.
So, when I created my list of the 10 coffee shops I had an interest in, Central was at the top of the list. And after my first Dam experience, it remains at the top of my list.
I liked the simple and welcoming atmosphere - much like a neighborhood coffee shop anywhere or a small pub. The music was very good; loud but not overbearing to where you couldn't have a conversation. The dude behind the counter (beard and ponytail) was very friendly and I picked out some Peace Maker (which had a Caution sticker on it!) and some Spoetnik hash. The bud was a bit over a gram and the hash a bit over 2 grams and with a cup of tea the total was 27 Euros. Not bad! The guy was very friendly and hooked me up with a nice cup of tea and let me take some photographs of his stock and shop. As an American, I am used to smoking my bud pure, and since I had a goodly amount of hash I wanted to use a pipe instead of rolling a joint. I would have preferred glass, but Central had a small, but nice display of head supplies and I was able to pick up a small metal pipe with screen for 5 Euros. Just right for something I would have to throw away before heading home.

I got a spot at the table and smoked a few bowls while enjoying my cup of tea and some serious people-watching. I very much enjoyed watching people take the time to craft their joints. I had never seen the whole ritual of the card filter, the cone roll, the sprinkle of cigarette tobacco, the twisted end. I don't smoke cigarette tobacco so I didn't try one, but instead rolled up a quick and simple pure weed American-style joint and ordered another cup of tea.
The shop owner had a helper who was very attentive to cleaning tables when people left and I sat for an hour-plus enjoying the music and watching person after person come in to make their purchase. It was obvious that everything I had read was true - this was the place where locals came to get their bud. I saw many professional types, couples, etc. - not just heads. The owner was friendly with all and gave a quick smile as he opened up his display case.
As much as I want to sample as many of the highly rated coffee shops as possible during my next and future trips, I will definitely always head to Central first.
Peace, TS

De nada. Check out the photos I just added. This is a small place and I can see how it could get very crowded, but on a Monday night from about 7-8:30 pm. it was very nice.Hoppus wrote:Thanks this is good info
To me, attitude is important. And of all the shops I visited, the bud-tender at Central was the most pleasant and the place had a very mellow vibe. For example, I loved the decor and atmosphere at Greenhouse (across from Rick's), and the bud selection was good, but I thought the boss bud-tender was a jerk. A smile goes a long way.

Yea too rite mate.
I think the attitude of the people in the coffeeshop is nearly as important as their stock, i havent been to central before but after your report i may have to pop in as only staying round the corner.
Cool report by the way too like the pics

Counting down the days to next trip only 35 to go!!!!!!!!

I picked up some Northern Lights from here on the second day of my trip last week. It was cheap at 12.5E for 1.9g but didn't look anything like as impressive as the weed in somewhere like Grey Area.
Never got into the bag at all and I must have forgotton it was in my bag cos it turned up at home along with 1.6g of Charas!!
The Northern was actually a real nice smoke and the Charas was simply knockout. Highly recommend a call into this shop.

Just arrived for a week, the place I'm renting is half a mile from the station, so Central made a perfect pitstop. Just been travelling so decided to grab and go, and am now tucking in to some half decent Bio Skunk. Bought 2.2g of that and 2.4g of Super Polm (which I'll report back on shortly) for 25 euros. I've not been to Holland for about 4 years so I'm not entirely sure on prices, but this seems a good deal.
A good start

Get ready for a shock Mr Morrell. The times have changed and prices are high!! That seems an awfully nice lot of pot for 25E though. Hope you are enjoying it.mr morrell wrote:Just arrived for a week, the place I'm renting is half a mile from the station, so Central made a perfect pitstop. Pickapocket, you're right, that does now seem like an good deal now I've been to a few other places. My old trusted favourite, Speakeasy, is not half as impressive as it used to be - that was always where I could get nice big bags of good quality Orange Bud for cheap...but no more - was there last night and they said they don't usually have 20 euro bags of Orange Bud, and the 10 euro bag didn't seem outsized at all. Shouldn't complain, but they're not much better than the rest any more.
Central's selection has done the job though - their Super Polm I got helped me off to sleep nicely last night, although that probably wasn't the hardest job in the world after I'd got through some of the Greenhouse's NYC Diesel and Silver Pearl, not to mention the Bubblegum that found its way into my joints...I love this place!

Came back here at lunchtime for a big bag of Eidelweiss, pretty strong smoke, I'd advise at least 15 unplanned minutes ahead of you after a big reefer of that! We sat down for one here this time and it was OK but very busy, which shows how popular their weed is, but the music was pretty lame - trance, then I guess it depends what you like.
