GREAT question. We do LOVE us some Gyros. Could care less about the fires in the states but over seas they are excellent.

I got a good gyro in a little shop right out of Central Station, don't remember about the fries tho.

Gyros: (Originally Greek) grilled pigmeat with Gyros/Greek spices usually served in a pita with onions, tomato and tzatziki (greek sauce with yoghurt, garlic, cucumber, oliveoil and spices) You can also get it with just fries or something else like Wonkaboy is looking for.

Kebab: (Originally Turkish) grilled vealmeat with spices. But they use other meat as well in some kebab places like chicken, turkey or lamb, or just a mix of crappy meat wastes and fat layers. Usually gets served in a pita or a wrap with salad, tomato, onion and sometimes garlic sauce (in NL) But you can also get it with fries or rice or whatever.

The Gyro is better ! Where i live there is a place that opened up about 3 years ago called "Gryo King " they are excellent they even give you a small chunk of Feta cheese , besides that place i always bought them in the Greek diners always great and with the Fries !

Varkensvlees is dutch for pork.

I thought the original "Turkish Kebabs" i.e. doner style, used lamb... All tastes good to me though!

BigRigRob - I like that place as well - always seems well cooked and fresh there.

My favourite subject, fella! I've even had a proper "Turkish" kebab (Shoarma) IN Turkey, so I can use that as a benchmark!!

Wherever I go in the world, I always like to try the local kebabs, if they look safe enough and I see locals eating there!

I never have greenery on it, or chili sauce (bit of lemon juice now and then if the mood takes me), because I actually like to be able to taste the meat.

As for mayonnaise - yack. I'd rather eat dogfood. (And I have...) :P
