yeps that was in fact my NEXT point in this discussion, so I love where your heads are at! :)

the reason I started smoking weed (when I was 14!!!) was because the "cool" kids in my grade were doing it, and that we were taught about it as such an evil thing I had to go for it.. everytime I was told to "be careful of it" it was pushing me further towards trying it.. now thats my personality (and that was ONLY for weed, I haven't tried ANY hard drugs yet and have absolutely NO envy of doing so.)

I then realised (with the help of weed-thinking) that these "coolios" at school had in fact shitty lives and were not doing weed for the same reason as me, which just made me feel better about doing cannabis and so on..

I went to an international school so I saw people coming from practically every country in the world. at parties, when weed was readily available, most people were hitting that shit serious, and 90% had at LEAST taken a puff. but believe it or not, the only people that really couldn't give a fuck about taking a puff were the dutch kids, because they grew up in it and its just like having a pint to them.. so on the whole, they were the ones that smoked the less out of all the others (french, belgians, us, brits, spanish, etc..)
interesting, huh? now we just need world wide governments to understand that and think about it for a sec..

Peace,
Scott.

... and how fucked-up is this... knowing just how much enjoyment and bliss the bud brings me. I have such a bond with my lads that should they want to "experiment", I'de love them to be comfortable to have a smoke with me. Obviously not at 13y/o... I don't think smoking at any age is a sensible idea (health). but if they were going to would'nt that be a blast.

I once got my Dad high on my pipe and he giggled his ass of through chinese eyes and babbled his way through 3 or 4 un translatable sentences before admiting that it had had any effect !!

There are times I want to get my mother high, but I just can't bring myself to do so. She has known I smoke for almost 15 years now, but... I dunno. However, I have gotten my father high without him knowing. On three seperate occassions I cooked up some herb and served it to him. Twice on purpose, once he walked in while I was making cookies and took 2 of um. Funny thing is, when he gets high he sits infront of the tv and just watches commercials. The show comes back on and he flips channels to the next commercial. Just makes me laugh. Though, I am sure if Mr. Rules were to find out I spiked him, I don't think I would be able to get around without the aid of a wheelchair.

I wouldn't worry too much, let your little ones grow up, and just the fact that your already preparing for the time when you'll have to face the talk is amazing.. you'll be more than ready for it when it comes and you'll find the words to give them a rational explanation.
may the bud be with you :)

Peace,
Scott.

Very interesting, as is your perspective on how to deal with inquisitive teens. My experience bears out your hypothesis: because my daughter has grown up with people around her (well, mainly me  ) toking to relax she seems a lot less intrigued by it than kids who have received the same all-drugs-are-evil-full-stop message from parents and teachers. I do think the Dutch have got it right as far as cannabis regulation is concerned.

The reason most kids try drugs in the first place is because parents, teachers, and cops lie to them about the affects and consequences of things. Once they realize you lied/exaggerated about one thing, they will think you lied about all things. This then makes them want to see why you lied to them. Shrug. My family allowed me alcohol since I was 5. If I wanted a drink I just had to ask. I don't drink. In fact, in High School and College when everyone else was shitfaced and puking, I would have a whiskey sour and that was that. I was good for the night. I ended up being the designated driver most of the time. Why? Because it was never forbidden fruit, and I grew up thinking it was nothing special so never felt the need to overindulge. Scare-tactics don't work on kids. Kids think they are immortal anyhows, so all your warnings don't mean a thing to them to begin with.

Thanks for getting back to original question. According to the poll I ran earlier the average age of people on this site is still between 23-35 and I am still the only one in the 55+ catagory

19 here...20 on 1st June..in amsterdam for it again :D

As I stayed on topic up there i'll ramble here... (post-pure cheese spliff mmm)

I knew my dad smoked from about 9-10 years old, used to get a bit upset about it, only cos' drugs are bad mm'kay and all the shit you belive at that age. If anything, it put me off smoking for ages, and I didn't smoke my first joint until I was 17... Sounds stupid I know, but I didn't know how my old man would react when I told him, so I delayed it for about a year, until just before I went to Amsterdam. I thought it was a bit giveaway going to amsterdam anyway..plus all the lifts home with me blatently reeking of weed, so I told him and we've smoked together everyday since (ahhhhh!).

SO to sum all that up...weed smoking parents..good thing, but imo let your kids admit to you they smoke before you bring it up too much, then they've make their own decision..it certainly seemed ok for me anyway

Chris
:D

Edit: Just to add...my 16 year old sister is dead against all things weed so I don't think we're been infulenced anyway!

Hope that makes sense?!
