There are a few other places like this mainly in other cities like Utrecht, for example. I think it is a dumb policy. After being told I had to buy, I simply said 'see ya' and went to Katsu who took a totally different 'welcoming' approach. It works. The place was packed and Club Media was empty.
I've been going to both CM and Katsu for several years and have exactly opposite the experience you had. Club Media is very welcoming and nice shop although you definatley do have a point about having to buy although I've never been told I had to buy before going in maybe because I always do buy anyway.
CM has good weed for a great value.
Katsu on the other hand has one of the most sour BT's there is (if you've seen her you know who I'm talking about) she so obviously doesn't care for tourists, but they do sometimes have great bud usually written on a small board in the shop as specials I had Lavender X LA Con that was real nice for 9e a gram.
I think I know the female BT you are talking about. She was a little curt perhaps but I was under the impression it was because she was really busy. The market traders were shutting up shop and as a result the place was packed. I liked the guy with the poney tail who was in charge of the music side of things. He looked like the owner. He seemed to run a tight ship, constantly eyeing the place out and I had the impression he wouldn't take too kindly to fools. I certainly wouldn't liked to have got on the wrong side of him that's for sure. But having said that, he was friendly and up for a chat and I liked the music he was playing. Nice hash too.

One of my favorite shops in Amsterdam. Great 'Afghaan' weed. I haven't seen it anywhere else.

Any word on the Hindu Kush??

Will be making the pilgrimage down here anyway, what else is hot on the menu right now? I'm more into my sativas but a good landrace like Hindu Kush always sparks my interest!!

Try out their Afghaan as well, its cheap (9 euro, i think? its been a month or two). Its an indica but I really enjoyed it. A gram is worth a sample :-) most of the CM menu is composed of indica or indica-dominant hybrids. I think there is two/three sativa's to choose from. It is one of my favorite shops in Amsterdam, mostly because I enjoy their Afghaan and I can't find it anywhere else. The staff and atmosphere is great as well. I tried their Hindu Kush at the beginning of the year, it's a good smoke.
