Haarlem Map

Post by Stygian23 »

For the last month or so, I have been looking for a map of Haarlem to rival those available for Amsterdam. Finally, I took two images of a Willie Wortel's map and made a 'cleaner' composite. For those of you who want to make a side trip to Haarlem but would prefer a map in your pockets, here you go.

Willie Wortel's Map of Haarlem

I do realize the map reads like a giant ad for the Wortel chain, but seeing as they drew the thing to begin with... I don't see a problem with this.

Nothing wrong with that mate, I'm fortunate enough to know Haarlem pretty well now and I've also got one of those maps from the WW chain in my posession but for those that are new to the town its all you need imo.

Hey, Boner, what are the P's representative of? I haven't figured that out yet. :D Parking garages?

Very interesting indeed and Haarlem is only a short train ride away from Amsterdam.

Also worth noting is that I've never seen any hint of a bad review for the Wortel shops.

Say Styg, what kind of scale is the map? Are the places easy to reach on foot?

A nice idea for a day away from the Dam during my week there.

Best to ask Boner, I put that map together because I plan on visiting Haarlem for the first time when I go back in May. Unfortunately the maps I combined were missing the names of the streets on the right hand lower side of the map. Shrug. I would assume that the WW Sativa is about 100 yards/91.5 meters (at worst, 200 yards/183 meters) from the station. Figuring that, it shouldn't be hard to work out a rough estimate of distances.

Doog, the first Willie's is about 1 minute from the train station. The other shop is about a 10 minute walk, just past the cop shop. A Big windmill is across the street. Boner had a video showing how to get to the first shop. Great clip. AzLaker 8)

Thanks 'Laker. I've sent a PM to Boner about the shops so hopefully he'll still have the video clip.

They look like top class shops.

I think the P's are post offices, Doog it would take you about 20 mins to walk from the train station down to the Sinsemellia, the videos on how to walk to the 3 shops are here: http://www.hempcity.nl/movies/triptoallshops/index.html

Nice videos, but the "tour guide" gives the impression that he would much rather have been doing something else or that he was on community service. He did get the job done though.

I love that Dutch accent when they speak English. Really cool.

Haarlem looks like a really nice place.

The 'tour guide' is the webmaster for the WW website www.hempcity.nl and I dont think he was too comfortable doing the tour.
