To be fair if I dropped €100 in one coffeeshop I'd expect them to buy me the drink, Grey Area for example always give me and the wife a free drink if I spend €50.

I can't believe you find it normal to stay in a Coffeeshop, sit down to smoke and not ordering a drink. And then complaining coz you've been told to get a drink or leave....imagine if all the tourists were like you,....
well if i owned a coffeeshop, id rather somebody spend €100
and not buy a drink, then spend €2 and not buy any weed

It's not about how much you spending, it's just IMO common sense, to get a drink if you want to sit down and blaze...
And Boner, lol, you expect them to buy you the drink? damn...
Well , nice one if Grey Area gets you and your wife drinks for free if you spend 50 euros, thats cool!
Go to 5 CoffeeShops, get 5gr of their most expensive weed and see how many free drinks you gonna get....
Why would they do it, unless you someone special or smth

If I drop €50/+ in any coffeeshop I normally get free stuff from papers to lighters (I've had both before) and yeah I've had free drinks in quite a few coffeeshops over the years, I'm just very polite and friendly maybe that helps?

It's just like going to a pub, get a box of cigarettes from the ciggie machine they got, then sit down and smoke your fag and then being surprised to be asked to order a drink or leave...

yes sure Boner man, I agree with that, I'd expect freebies like that too when i spend that amount of money, and often had free grinder, papers, lighters, etc...
but it would never cross my mind to get free drinks.
btw if you go to smaller cities in Holland and buy over 50 euros, you get a lot more freebies than in Amsterdam, i've noticed...

Same here, not every shop but the ones that spring to mind from recent trips are MY, Barneys Lounge (always get something free), and Kadinsky (The little one).
MY always chuck some stuff in, maybe only skins and a drink. Hell we was even in Old Amsterdam during 420 and the owner chucked a big nug of Bud for us all to sit and smoke.
Enjoy

Thinking about it the best place to get a free drink is Picasso, I think I spent €12.50 in there and still got a free drink for the me and the wife (the reason I mention the wife is because she doesn't smoke).

Spend 100 euro in any coffeeshop that isn't run by a complete knob, or have one working behind the counter and you'll be allowed to smoke it on the premises without buyin a drink....to think anything else means ya should work there.

had the same from girl in Dampkring, more than likely same one you dealt with (she went 'round the upstairs room hassling everyone). It's ok to spend 10 euros on a gram and a drink but spend 50 like I did or 100 like you with no drink and she wants you out. I wonder is she paid on drink commission ?
and Beejun your comparison is a bit silly - a pub is known for selling beer as a coffee shop is weed. A better comparison would be spending 100 quid on beer but getting thrown out for not paying 3 quid on fags
Onto the ID - I got carded quite a few times but doesn't really bother me since I always have my passport on me. Not exactly an insult to be asked for it.
