UK airlines refuse sick passengers
19th July, 2009
In the UK, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have put further restrictions on people suspected of suffering swine flu.
The airlines have introduced measures to turn back passengers showing symptoms of the virus after Britain's health authorities advised people to delay journeys
if they had excessive sneezing or coughing with a high temperature.
The airlines have put medical teams into operation at airports to decide whether people can fly.
If the medical teams believe there are reasons to refuse boarding, passengers are asked to produce a fit to fly certificate from their doctor.
The more stringent checks came about after a group of 52 students and teachers had to be placed in quarantine on a study tour to Beijing.
Britain is Europe's worst-hit swine flu territory, with estimates of 55,000 new cases over the past week.
