Amsterdam trip report July 2009
Well after deciding on a much needed break from day to day life and the kids!! For a few days, my wife and I decided on another trip to our spiritual homeland, the beautiful city of Amsterdam.
Due to our geographical location our tried and trusted method of travel was the Stenaline Hollandica.
The overnight crossing from Harwich to the Hoek Van Holland for the forward journey and the afternoon crossing for the return journey are ideal for us and at £160.00 return including on board meals and trains to and from the city were a bargain.
The accommodation was booked at www.easytobook.com 250.00 Euro for the renaissance 5 Star Hotel, only two minute walk from centraal station, I must say it was a bargain including breakfast. I would recommend this to anyone all you do is register credit card details on line and you pay by any means when you check out.
I have paid a lot more in the Dam for a lot worse lets put it that way.
Arriving in the Dam by 10.00am Friday morning fuelled by our breakky we had on the boat we were charged to hit the streets apart from I did not manage to sleep well on the boat LOL.
Anyway I had a job to do and that was smoke some herb and spend some good time with my lovely wife, notice how I put smoke herb first, see I got my priorities right!!.
After a quick check in at our hotel, dropped our stuff in our very plush room and onto Fredirics for our mode of transport for the duration of our stay, a classic Dutch style bike at 10.00 Euros for 24 hours, fair enough. My wife talked me into getting a bike after about 20 visits in the last 10 years to the Dam I crumbled at her whinging.
I was very surprised, I always thought I would be too stoned to ride, if you have ever been to Amsterdam you will know what I mean but the thing is with bikes having priority its almost not as scary as walking as everything moves for the bikes even cars seem to hold back for you. I cycle to and from work everyday in my home town and feel I do my bit to remove my carbon thingy!! But we really could learn off these folks.
Anyway back to the mission of spending some hard earned cash on hopefully nice weed and hash. First up was Rokery got a honey tea for my wife and a coke for me at 4.00 Euro. Went for chocolope 9.00 Euro for 1.0g, I have got to say I have just grown this, the two seemed very similar in every way but I hate to admit it Rokerys was slightly better then mine but for some reason I could not put my finger on why I thought this, maybe the environment I don’t know but for my first purchase of this trip I was very happy with my choice.
We got chatting to a guy originally from Canada but now living in the UK, he was a cool chap and I said I would mention him in this report but with no names or anything to give him away to his employer as his job is very sensitive, so if you are reading this “hello from us man”.
The staff here was cool and polite and I found this to be the case each time I popped in on my stay here what ever staff they had on and all product knowledgeable enough for me.
My only negative thought was about the price here but I knew that before I left so should not moan really.
Next up was Homegrown Fantasy settled on Cheese 12.50 Euro for 1.0g which is weighed in front of you on a nice big screen even us stoners can see it!!. The young lady serving me was politely told by I imagine the boss not to handle the buds so much when she serving up, he looked at me as if to say “I told her” but you know she could have served me naked and picked the buds with chop sticks and I would not have noticed as I was so stoned from Rokerys chocolope, Also got two cokes at 2.00 Euros each, the cheese looked and smelt great but lacked in taste and punch, UK cheese is my favourite weed and this would never match up to what I grow and seen friends grow, if that won the cup mine would smash it and I hate to sound like a big head. To be honest I think it had been force dried as it was very crispy.
As for the staff and shop itself there is nothing to worry about here.
Now it was a quick lunch to combat those predicted munchies and onto Bluebird for Blue Cheese 12.50 Euro for 1.0g and Melting Pott 25.00 Euro for 0.4g, this place never lets you down gear wise or vibe wise, the music was great, cool skinhead female budtender was as helpful and chatty as always, she was explaining to me how they have a couple of original blue cheese mothers from big buddah. To give you a gauge of how good this was my missus was shopping when I called in here and she came in later so she had not seen what I purchased and she is not a regular smoker she said “wow that really smells of blueberry or fruity” so that really impressed me for two reasons one the shop has good blue cheese and two my missus telling these weeds apart like a pro, I think I am rubbing off on her. Onto the melting pott, well what a lovely smoke forgetting what I paid for it, I was happy with this, when lit it bubbled and spat like a witch’s caldron.
We were so stoned that the stairs had us giggling all the way down them like two naughty school kids.
Now we had a quick freshen up at the hotel and the over to Prix Dami for some pool, did not buy here this time just paid 4.00 Euro for 6 games of pool, they are currently modernising the place and the staff seemed chilled.
Next up a cycle ride to Sibirie for some Mighty Whitey (White Widow) 8.00 Euro for 1.0g it was what I would term average the budteneder was a very nice person very chirpy but clearly loved jamiroquai as this was all she played the whole time I was there although she sung to the songs very well, I aint no jamiroquai fan.
This was a bit of a let down so went for some Amnesia Haze 9.00 Euro for 1.0g, a very strong citrus type smell was coming from these buds, tight nuggets looked promising, it was lovely smoked every bit the way it should.
The other thing to mention here is the fact that I gave her 2 ten Euro notes by mistake and she told me, I don’t think all shops are this honest.
Now cycle over to wok to walk and then onto Stix for Gunpowder 13.00 Euro for 1.0g something told me to get this how wrong I was, all it done was made me sneeze I could not even open the bag without sneezing because of the pollen I guess.
The budtender was friendly and helpful he felt very bad I could not smoke this and opened every tub he had until I settled on Diesel 12.50 Euro for 1.0g this was a very nice smoke clearly was diesel, dense buds and an earthy taste. It seemed to me that a quite a lot of locals call in here and pop off elsewhere to smoke but seeing locals always encourages me, it was the cleanest coffee shop I have ever been in even the toilets were immaculate.
The rest of the day consisted of some more pool at prix dami and finished at rokery as so close to our base.
The next day saw me at the 420 café being the first customer of the day!! That’s eagerness for you.
Went for Super Silver Haze 12.00 Euro for 1.0g, used their volcano for this it was awesome being my first smoke of the day.
I would say it was not quite as strong as the amnesia from sibirie but still a very good smoke and had all hazey characteristics. It was here that I met a young American who I gave the gunpowder to, he did not sneeze or anything so must be me.
The Staff were friendly, helpful and relaxing to be around I must have spent two hours or so chatting to, I think a brummy who worked there.
Next up was Sanementereng after reading about this place I thought I better see some of this junk they sell. Asked for White Widow 8.00 Euro for 1.0g but the scales had just broken but to be honest when I saw the weed I was not that worried as it was all bitty with no smell, lucky escape me thinks. I smoked a quick bowl then the lady said “I now have the scales working” I made my excuses and left but she was polite and not offended.
So now over to one of my favourite shops Dampkring got a couple of fresh orange juices and some G13 Amnesia Haze 13.00 Euro for 1.0g this was a nice smoke but a little harsher then sibiries amnesia and more expensive so all in all I would say sibirie won the amnesia test!!.
Nice staff as always a true connoisseur shop I would say, volcanos and bongs a plenty.
We were enjoying a nice cycle round and then the heavens opened so we dropped into the nearest coffee shop we could find it happened to be Paradise went for Cheese 15.00 Euro for 1.4g I only made a buy because he made us he was rude he was circling the shop looking to moan at people for something the guy was a twat he just wanted to say something to everyone we saw several come and go and argue with him in our brief stop here waiting for the rain to stop to say I would not go back is an under statement.
The cheese was pre weighed!! And I think you can guess whats coming, it was shit I threw it away as I think it was grit shit that goes around!!. Funny really as I aint seen that shit since I started growing 4 years ago and I come all the way here and I still find it its like a bad penny.
Luckily the rain soon stopped and onto the Saint, what drawled me here was the fact that it is under new ownership so I thought I would have a look in.
I asked for the l a confidential but they just sold out so went for Buddah Sensation 14.00 Euro for 1.0g, a very strong weed this resinous buds coated in whiteness just simply divine, I also like the covered alley way here to sit in, did not even have to lock bikes just sat next to then it was so relaxing, after this my wife fancied more pool so over to prix dami a polite remembering nod from staff made us feel at ease and sat played pool and smoked some more of my wears.
Back to hotel for change of clothes and back out to Bushdoctor for some Jelly Hash 26.00 Euro for 0.5g, this is very nice hash but not as strong as the melting pott from bluebird but a very similar smoke.
Next was Popeye I asked for some strong hash he sold me something which is not on his menu as yet he says so I will call it Spinach 30.00 Euro for 0.5g this was like a resiny powder so a powder but kind of sticky like bubble hash I aint just saying this it was the strongest smoke I can recall, he also informed me that it takes 20 grams of prime bud to make 1.0g of this stuff and I believe him it was awesome but at these prices a real one off treat. He was informative and very helpful a pleasure to visit this place.
Next in store for us was Coffee shop 36 there is a pool table here which is always taken went for Kalimist 11.50 Euro for 1.0g, again I would term this just an o.k smoke so I sprinkled some of the spinach on and that sorted it in fact it felt like every problem I have had been sorted.
The next day was my last day sadly so an early start at Freeworld went for KC Jones 12.00 Euro for 1.0g, it was hydro grown it was a nice smoke and had an old school taste to it if you know what I mean. The chap here was very good and drinks were reasonable.
Now sadly this was my last shop of the visit it was The Doors, I asked for the cheese but he talked me out of it and said try Fruity Juice 10.00 Euro for 1.3g, Does what it says on the tin really a real fruity taste with tight buds very dry and powdery price wise I suppose it was not bad by Dams pricing!! But a very nice purchase and choice of shop to end this visit on.
Unfortunately it was time to head back to the hoek, to summarise this trip I would say the weed has been generally o.k. but everywhere seemed to have exceptionally dry crumbly weed, one chap who I got chatting to in 420 said he felt it was because of the hot weather leading upto my trip he said that all the weed has dried too quick which I believe as in that hot weather last month my weed dried quicker then I have seen before.
I am now counting my pennies to see when my next trip is viable although next time I want it to be a bit longer as it went so quick. I hope this report has helped it’s the first time I have ever done a report but thought I should re pay the favour as I find reports so good to read and enjoyable, I am not a good writer as you can see but have done my best if anyone would like more information, I would love the chance to share my recent knowledge with you.
Thanks for reading, happy smoking and lets be kind to one another.
