Amsterdam for 6 Hours!!!

Post by messyrimjob »

Hey guys. I'm heading to Dubai on the 6th of August and I have a 6 Hour layover at Schiphol. This is the first time I will be in Amsterdam in my entire life, or in Europe for that matter. I would like to make it memorable ;)

So, I hope you catch my drift...

I have been searching the web and this site quiet often recently and the conclusion that I'm arriving at is that all the coffeeshops are fairly distant from the airport. I was just wondering if 6 hours is enough to go to a coffeeshop for a little while and then return to the airport to catch my flight to Dubai? Or if there is a coffee shop near the airport?

Comments and advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to ACD. The city center is about a 15 min train ride away from Schiphol Airport. 6 hours would be plenty of time to pop into town. Just make sure you leave enough time to get back to the airport, go through immigration and the security check.

Peace,

Thanks. Well, the layover is actually 8 hrs, so I have allocated 2 hrs for immigration and security checks. I hope it takes less than that but you never know. Air travel has become such a nuisance these days.

Any recommendations as to which coffeeshops might be a good place to visit and which is not too far from Schiphol?

In bloodstream???? That would indicate a urine analysis or follicle test. that sounds a bit extreme. What evidence would they use to justify the testing?? Red eyes??

The guy that was sentenced (I have heard about him), Ya...I don't know what to say. He had to have a gram...

grooverider got imprisoned for having a granule of grass in his pocket, aint worth the risk imo, even if you step into a cs, a customs dog will pick up a scent & in a country like dubai thats enough for them to demand a bloodtest

How long is your layover on the way home?

If you do go for it, be very careful.

Your hair and clothes will soak up the smell.
Maybe wear throw away clothes into town then change out of them at the airport.
Leave them in a restroom trashcan.

Other than washing it, I don't know what you could do about your hair.

You are heading into a country that is SERIOUS about weed.
Seems strange since they are almost in down town hash central.
Oh well, their country, they call the shots.
My system stays too saturated for me to even consider visiting Dubai.

You could do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.

That should be plenty of time for a visit into the Centraal district. I personally don't know anyone experiencing the issues outlined when arriving in Dubai. As far as convenience, I usually make my first stop the Centraal Coffeeshop because it is right across from the Centraal Station, and it opens early (7 am I think). There are precious few CS open this early. Good luck. My first trip to Amsterdam was 18 hours, but what an amazing 18 hours they were!

I would personally go for it, but make sure you change clothes as already advised. I have mates who are massive weed smokers who've visited dubai with no problems, you can't live your life on ifs and maybes...

if you get busted in dubai for a smoke you had hours earlier in amsterdam, then yes that would make for a truly memorable trip but for all the wrong reasons

my safety-first suggestion would be to not smoke before dubai, but smoke after dubai ... if the return route is not through the netherlands, then my suggestion would be to be patient and wait until you are not going to dubai after an amsterdam stop over

sorry ...

Dubai's ok, i mean in a rich new city completely santized place that lets people experience a very Westernised version of the middle east.

Not my cup of tea, tbh, fuck 5 star hotels. I'd rather go somewhere where i could experience a completely different culture instead of a bunch of rich cunts building a new city for the vistors to think it's a nice civilised country while having drug laws from the dark ages.

Plus, if i want to bone a bird on the beach, i should be allowed to...i'm on holiday.
