The first smoke I had in Amsterdam was in Vondel Park in July 1973. Some delicious Afghani in a chillum. In those days, you couldn't find buds, but lots of imported hash. It is so much better now with the fine buds and isolator hashes from Holland, and still great imports from around the globe, and with so many coffeeshops. You bought in clubs like Paradiso and Melkweg, Vondel park from dealers on bikes, small bars in the centrum from dealers who came and went, and often from street dealers that were everywhere. Amsterdam was captivating then, and still is. The atmosphere(gezellig) has remained constant throughout my years of visiting this wonderful, unusual, and vibrantly stimulating city.

When: Oct 2001
Where: Excalibur
What: Pure pre-rolled
My initiation was similar to Boner's. My wife and I were on a stopover from Aberdeen for a weekend and spent the day downtown. Without any benefit from something like ACD we were very paranoid about the RLD scene initially, although short lived.
We stumbled on Excalibur purely by accident, it was the first coffeeshop we smelled... By the time I discovered what the "menu" was, I had already finished a pure pre-rolled and was cruising right along. The staff were incredibly tourist friendly and the music was great. Although the joint was nice I will always remember Excalibur fondly for discovering how good "real" Heineken tastes.

Can't believe it's taken me this long to post a message in this thread. Oh well...
When: October 2004 (can't remember the exact date, think it was a Wednesday near the end of the month)
Where: Future, Prins Hendrikkade

Joint: Super Skunk (ready-rolled)
The Story: Dear, oh dear! After getting off the coach that brought us from Europort Ferry Terminal to Central Station, Tommy & I already cocked up somewhat by walking all the way round the back of the buildings rather than doing what all normal people do & walk through the station to get right into the heart of A'Dam.
After what seemed like an unnecceserily long walk we spotted the first coffeeshop (& my very first ever), the unassuming Future. Despite having not the first clue where to find our hotel, we went in for my virgin A'Dam smoke. I had half of a big phat Super Skunk spliff, & it absolutely did me up like a ploughman's lunch. The rather irritating dance music in the shop was getting louder, & I totally lost track of time, & when we stepped out of the door I moaned to Tom that it was getting "late" & we really should find our hotel as it would be "getting dark soon", which just goes to show how paranoid I was as it was only about 11.30 in the morning!
Things went from bad to worse for me personally: with Tom & I wandering around A'Dam thinking we'd just "suddenly" come across our hotel, being more stoned than I'd felt in years (& after just half a ready-rolled- what a lightweight!), we managed to wind up at some dead quiet little streets at the back of canals, & the sheer silence made me more nervous than before. Finally in mid-afternoon, we admitted defeat, & went to the taxi rank outside the station where we were taken to the Falcon Plaza hotel on Volkenburgerstraat, which to be fair, was only a 15-minute walk from the RLD, & we were dead close to it whilst walking around gormlessly, without even realising it. D'oh!
The other half of the Super Skunk spliff was polished off in our hotel room, & I enjoyed it more after feeling settled & calm over finding the hotel & knowing it's location in relation to the RLD. We've probably come off as a couple of berks in this little tale, but in my defence, it was my first time in a city that was a lot bigger than I ever imagined. But in retrospect, getting stoned BEFORE we found our bearings & accomodation was not particularly wise. But for that reason, I'll never forget my first joint in Ver Dam, & I can look back with fondness & humour now, even though at the time I was too nervous & paranoid!...

MY first post on the forum and about my first spliff in Amsterdam
When: October 2000
Where: Prix D'Ami
What: Silver Haze closely followed by some Fishermans Friend
Sat back with our packs and checked out the ceiling until check in time
I always make sure this is my first stop on every visit. They have loads of room so bags are not a problem, good weed and a good atmos not to mention damn comfy seating.

In 1988, I was fifteen years old and was on a school trip to holland. We had just visited a clogs factory in Delft, and had been given a couple of hours to ourselves to explore the town centre, a group of us then began hunting for a coffeeshop! We came across this little shop that only had ready made spliffs in jars and a small menu, from what i recall the shop owner only had morrocan and afghani on his menu, we ordered a bit of both. The owner of the establishment had to leave the shop to go and get our hash, he left us with a fat cone each to smoke while he was gone! Many of our group couldn't stomach the strong hash and had to leave the shop to wait outside! The shop owner soon arrived with our gear and he served our deals up before we left. Most of us didn't know how to skin a joint so we ate what we had! I, personally, ate about 2g of Afghani Black and was timewarped for hours that day. I remember being on the school bus heading back to our hotel when the afghani hit me an hour or two after I had munched it, everything was in ultra-slow-motion!

I think the best place to smoke is still 222... from CEntral Station
go south on Damrak until you hit Dam sqaure. Make a left
in the square on Damstraat. Go one block and make left. 222
is on the left.
My first time in A-dam.. 2004, October... great white... it was good,
but when I found 222, northernlights/bubblegum white skunk
gave me a high that lasted more then 4 hours!
