traveling solo

Post by ramses »

Well, my trip originally started out as a foursome and now it's down to just me. :( It seems like quite a bit of you have done the solo trip or do it quite often. I've never traveled that far alone, but I'm an independent person and I don't think it would bother me. In fact I think doing a solo might be quite interesting. I still really want to go, but my wife said she would worry about me being alone in a foreign country (I told her I'd be fine). Any thoughts or experiences?

You won't have a problem at all. I feel safer alone in Amsterdam after midnight than I feel in most larger cities here in the USA at noon. Go,explore, meet and have a great time. You won't regret it at all.

Yeh I agree. I took a solo trip back in September and loved it. Was bit apprehensive at first as it had been 2 years since my previous visit and wasn't sure I'd get around ok but was great. Met some cool people and spent hours smoking away in my own thoughts, very introspective time for me!

Well, I'm going for sure, alone or w/ company. The wife said I just need to email her a few times a day to let her know I'm alive.

You will have a fantastic time, Solo'd it a couple of times 2008 and had the best time. No worrying about anyone but yourself. If you feel like you need to walk you can just walk.. no arranging with the rest of the party ect.

Only advice I can give is to make sure your have your MP3 player loaded up with your fave albums :D

Internet is available in many places so you will have no problems keeping in touch with the wife or you could take one of them mini laptop/netbooks with you as there are plenty of places with wireless. whatever you do tho, dont try to keep to a timetable of emailing your better half... you definately wont be on time!!

Have a great trip.

She hasn't ever smoked and has no desire to. We also have a two year old daughter that she's not ready to be away from yet. However, I might try to get her to go on a future trip if I really enjoy myself (like I won't). 8)

Fair enough, Cos I was wondering there, If I was going solo and feeling lonely, the first person I would bring would be my wife. (sorry to get soppy on ya) Tho circumstances are different for a lot of us. Let us know how it goes!

No worries going solo m8. I mostly travel solo or take the missus and 2 year old with us. Its more fun on your own though.
Enjoy!! :D

just make sure to not travel alone through dark streets, use the trams, keep your wollet in a safe place....the rules are the same as in every other big town in the world.
