Hotel Uptown / The Rookies

Post by BluMing »

I had the pleasure of staying here one night during the 4/20 meet. I arrived a bit early so I just dropped my bag off. The guy there was super friendly and helpful. When I got back there that night, I found he had already put my bag in my room. :) The room itself was basic, but VERY clean and comfortable with a tv, 2 towels, toilet and shower. I got a single and it was located on the front side of the hotel. It was a bit noisy during the night from the street out front but then I was so tired, and so stoned, it just didn't seem to matter. The bed was very comfortable. They had great water pressure and all the hot water you could want. They have a nice small breakfast buffet and the guy there will cook you eggs anyway you like them. Their coffee (Douwe Egberts) was killer too!
If the weather is nice, you can sit outside on their terrace and start your day off with a nice smoke after breakfast. I found the terrace to be very peaceful and quiet, being the hotel is located right off Leidseplein. A single in the high season is 75 euros a night. I didn't think this was bad at all for the location and value. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe. I would definitely stay there again. I think the staff is super, and they make you feel very welcome. I highly recommend this place!!! :D

Rookies is top of the list for my next visit (probably next year). I like the idea of a terrace where you can sit outside instead of smoking out your room and possibly causing damage to the bedding from hot rocks or whatever.

I have never read any complaints from anyone anywhere about the rooms and I also like the location which makes it much easier to see the museums and some of the other shops away from the centre (Dam Square/RLD area).

75 Euros per night would be an absolute steal compared to prices I have paid on previous trips.

How easy is it to get to Rookies from Centraal Station?

It is really easy to get there by tram. Take tram 1,2 or 5 to Leidseplein. Once you get off, just walk down beside the Burger King (to the right of BK if you are facing it) about 2 blocks and you are there. It is on the left-hand side.

The one downside of the terrace is that is closes at 8pm. It would be nice if it stayed open later in the summer months since it stays light until about 10:30 pm here. I also understand from talking to the guy that works there that it is best to book early for rooms in the summer as he said he is full almost every night.

Thanks for the reply. I would be using the terrace as as first thing in the morning sort of venue (Spliff/Coffee/Newspaper). I would probably be roaming the streets in my best clobber at 8pm. The coffeeshop downstairs is really really handy and while it may not offer the best of the best gear in town, I'm sure it would be good enough for me.

It is a lot closer to the museums and the main sort of party area so it would be ideal for someone like me who likes to divide the day into smoking and drinking sections.

I agree that Rookies does fill up rather quickly on practically all dates. Being a popular hotel with not so many rooms as others is obviously the main reason.

Thanks again.

Well we stayed at rookies.
It was really nice, we stayed in room 24 at the back of the hotel with a big window that opened overlooking the terraced area. The towles and bedding were changed daily. The room was clean and bright with a TV that picked up bbc 1, 2 & MTV. ( Essential if visiting from the uk )
The breakfast was served across the street with coffee/ tea/ juice, cold meats, cheese, scambled eggs, cereal & bread.
There was also a 10% discount with rookies bar.
The coffeeshop underneath was always a friendly place to smoke with a good menu.
The streets around rookies were busy with hotels, coffeeshops , bars resturaunts and mini supremarkets.
We would go back again without a doubt.

th I forgot to tell you there's a convenience store next to Rookies that sells Magnum ice cream bars that come in some awesome flavors. Dark or milk chocolate outside/vanilla ice cream and one I never got to try that has white chocolate on the outside w/strawberry ice cream on the inside... I'm still dreaming about that one

They're REALLY smooth n creamy... Blueberry turned me on to them.

Fantasic place. I'm hoping to stay there next year once our numbers are sorted out.

Although when staying on the third floor those stairs can be a killer after a long day.
Boom Boom...
