Smoking directly outside coffeeshop

Post by spiceman »

Hi coming in a few days and I was unsure if at some coffeeshops your allowed to smoke outside sitting at their seating area.

Also would like to know which coffeeshops have more of a mordern decor than a dark small cramped room.

I was planning to hunt down Katsu, Basjoe, Parradox, Bluebird, Stix, Rookies and any others you guys and girls suggest to check out.

Im checking out the above mainly because I have read they sell good gear. I have never been to any so looking forward to the surprise.

Cheers.

Cheers codejd. Looking forward to drifting into a haze outside near a canal soaking up the sunshine. Deep Joy!

The 3 most modern places would be Barneys, Dampkring & Greenhouse, all on Haarlemmerstraat.

I think I made this same exact thread a few months ago, .

Seeing as how I usually smoke blunts I hope for it to come in as a handy excuse if anyone wants to give me any shit for public smoking, considering the screwy tobacco laws.

Guys, they almost all dont care about tobbaco, and they all dont care about smoking outside of the shop. Basjoe and Rookies have both good seatings outside, with ashtrays on the tables

You are only supposed to smoke on the terrace for the specific coffeeshop if they have one, it isn't ok to just hang about outside any coffeeshop blazing, if the Police saw you they would ask you to smoke indoors.

If a coffeeshop has put some seats outside then I'd guess it's alright.

Yes, unless they have a seating area, you generally should respect the neighborhood and not smoke outside the door. It is done all the time, by locals also, but it does not help the shop's image.

Where are your favourite places to lose a few moments sitting outside a coffee shop. Any near canals?

See, this is what I meant when I posed my question.

I wasn't sure how cool it would be to chill outside someplace like De Kuil or Hunter's or a shop that doesn't have seating outside but also doesn't allow tobacco inside or have a smoking room.

Quite the grey area, no pun intended.

The only thing I would do is ask the staff if it's ok, at least you'll know either way.

Good point. It never occurred to me that those particular establishments are inconveniencing smokers and putting themselves at a competitive disadvantage. In effect, they're forcing tobacco smokers to seek out other shops.

Where I live, in the states, when smoking outside a bar, one is supposed to move at least fifteen feet away from the door. Do they have the same sort of regulation in Amsterdam, and if they do, is it one of those ordinances that is routinely ignored? Anyone?
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
