Hi All
We have recently adopted a dog. We're reluctant to put the dog in kennels and don't want to burden people with looking after her, but still want to make frequent trips to Amsterdam. We are thinking about going for a week or so and driving so the dog can come with us. I've found a hotel near Vondelpark that allows dogs so accommodation is sorted (although please let me know if you know of any) My main point that i want help with is coffeeshops that will either A) Let the dog inside or B) have some form out outside seating area where we can take her? We would be looking at going probably about mid April next year and if the weathers crap want somewhere we can go inside. If all else fails ill postpone the trip till the weather warms up.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Dog
It would be helpful to know the size of the dog. Here's a thread with a partial answer to your question https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewt ... 68#p375668
You might want to check (pm) with worldcitizen1723 for more details as she takes a dog with her when in Amsterdam.

Re: Dog
have you got a pet passport for the dog n take in to consideration the cost of taking a dog overseas and back as the dog will need 24hrs at the boarder when leaving and returning
at the end of the day what are friends for ? lol just get one of your family or friends to love the dog as much as you n that way they will watch the dog for you haha

Yeah, your problem is more likely to be with the UK than with coffeeshops or the NL. Island nations can be very strict when it comes to bringing in animals, even if it's an animal that came from that country but traveled abroad with its owner. This is assuming you're in the UK(given your reference to a quick trip to Amsterdam and your use of Britishisms, it seems a safe assumption.) Once you're here, though, it seems like plenty of people bring their dogs in with them to coffeeshops and bars, though it's always a good idea to ask if it's OK. If not, I'd recommend tying up old Sparky outside, getting your weed, rolling a joint and then smoking with your pup down at the Vondelpark or wherever you can light up discreetly. As dwain82 said, though, it's probably a lot easier to get your friends to love your dog and have them watch over him/her than go through the hassle of traveling with a dog. Most dogs don't like airplanes, either(and don't ever let your dog get put into the cargo hold; if he's too big for a crate that fits under the seat in front of you, don't take him on a flight. Cargo holds can easily kill pets.)

Re: Dog
Cheers for the replies, I'll message the person mentioned above. We would be driving so the dog would be in the car, Its about £15 each way on top of the fare for the dog on the ferry. Boarder control isn't the issue, I've spoke to the vets and she's getting the passport next month, providing she's up to date with the jabs there is no quarantine apparently. She's a medium sized dog. I'll give the bars and go if the coffeeshops don't allow her.
Cheers

Re: Dog
Hi Eddie,
as mentioned earlier my dog has visited Amsterdam 8 times now. He enjoys it and we enjoy having him around plus it is cheaper to bring him than it is to board him! We come from the US and not the UK. For travel - as long as all of the papers are in order, there are no problems. In terms of coffeeshops there are no problems there either- although we do avoid places that are too loud or too smokey, just for the dog's well being. A lot of places have outside seating which is a plus. In all of these trips, only once were we told the dog was not allowed into a coffeeshop: Greenhouse Effect- they said it was for the pet's health. The place was empty and it pissed me off. But otherwise not an issue, even at Barney's Uptown we had no problem with him. All places will give you water for the dog and have dog bowls too! Many restaurants are also okay with the dog, but not all. You should have a fine time and so will your dog..
for outdoor seating and people watching my favorite is 137 on browersgracht
Amnesia and La Tertulia are good spots too
(but we usually rent an apartment or houseboat in the Jordaan - so these are all in the 'hood)
The weather should be great.
finding dog friendly apartments on any apartment rental site is pretty simple - just add it to your requirements (under amenities)
any other questions just ask or pm me.
