Thursday 20th April 2023 - 4/20 Day

It's 4/20 day! Igraine and I emerge from the hotel to find the streets damp but it's drying now. We decide to take the easy option of breakfast at Panorama. I leave Igraine there for a moment and dash around the corner to snap a quick picture of the new Tyson coffeeshop.

After breakfast, the schedule has us heading down south to DNA and De Kade before returning for 4:20 at 420. It's about 11am now and we reckon we should be able to eat and get to the tram stop by 12 so we send out messages to the rest of the gang that this is our plan if anyone would like to join us.

As we arrive at the Dam stop on Damrak, we receive a message from Ghost to say he and Mike are on the tram that just departed. We chase behind them on the next number 24 to Olympiaplein on Stadionweg. From there we walk around Van Tuyll van Serooskerkenplein to snap some passing pictures of DNA.

Continuing on to De Kade, we find Mike, Ghost and Docgonzo42 inside.

I've never been here before but, I have to say, it's very stylish. We get some Ice Cream Cake, which Igraine notes is quite indica-heavy and stony. She also notes that the coffee is the best.

Image

For my part, I spot a shiny Volcano. This is soon fired up and, after switching a faulty part with another the staff find for me, it becomes part of a great little session along with the Mighty and several joints.

HullDJ and FBN are continuing their tour with us. I hope they find this coffeeshop as gezellig as I do.

Image

I originally considered catching a bus to have a quick look at The Border while we're here but I'm far too comfortable to be bothered to move. Instead we settle in for a couple of hours until it's time to get back into the centre for 4:20.

By about 3 o'clock we're in 420 Café, ready to commandeer the big table at the back for the celebratory session later this afternoon.

Image

We've soon monopolised the traditional table. ACD is being represented by Bedge, Docgonzo42, Gapie, Ghost, Gman, Igraine, Lemming, Mike, Occasional Bowl, Tokeing Tom, Trad and Worsall this year. A couple of guys with a nice bong squeeze into a spare corner for a while.

All the kit is out and serious consumption is in progress. As 4:20 approaches, Docgonzo42 offers some passive smoke to FBN and HullDJ.

Image

4:20 brings a big cheer and the traditional mega joint. Smoke rises.

Image

Soon after the celebration we have to prepare to move because we have an appointment at The Stud at 5 o'clock. It's a short walk from 420 to the Dam stop on Damrak where we all pile on to a Number 14 tram.

That takes us to the Molukkenstraat stop on Insulindeweg. The sun has burst out now as we walk along Molukkenstraat. Then we see MJ waving at us. Some of us met MJ (Mjhowy on these forums) on Monday in Green Place Haarlemmerstraat. Now he welcomes us to The Stud.

After posing for this group picture outside, MJ escorts us into the back room where he distributes samples for us to try and generally entertains us. Tokeing Tom says Blood Runtz and Lost Coast Ghost are top class.

I'm very happy to find a working Volcano in this room and I slide into a seat next to Tokeing Tom so I can load it up.

The session goes on for about three hours and then we gather for another picture on our way out.

Image

Another tram takes us back to Dam from where some of us are drawn to a chip shop by the Old Church. From there Gapie, Worsall, Bedge, OB, Igraine and me pile into The Tribe.

After about an hour we get a message from Tokeing Tom saying the rest of the crew are in Betty's (aka Bar 55), just down the road so we join them there.

I need a restock so I shoot round to Gelderse and return with a few baggies.

Back in 55 the party is revving up. Beer is flowing, weed is smoking, music is playing.

Image
FiftyFive

As the evening progresses, the speakers get gradually louder. Conversation gets harder and harder so we just smile and pass joints around. After a couple of hours, the volume seems to jump to a whole new level. I'm thinking Hawkwind In case of sonic attack ...

I must be getting old because eventually we're blown out of the door by the pressure of turbo nutter hifi. The sonic wave carries us across the road to HSB where we stop for a short while.

We finish the evening at the Bottle/cake shop/420 Café triangle for a last bit of indulgence before staggering back to our hotel.

I think we can consider 4/20 to have been properly celebrated! Last full day tomorrow ...

Excellent @Lemming a quality write up and fantastic photos. I thought DeKade was a top class establishment with a good vibe only made better by the group of ACD members that made the journey down there and the session that we had, we had a top session in there and the smoke quality was on point as well  8) . I will make a visit down there again during 420 2024 and also pop in to DNA for a few smokes. 420 was a cracking day with another fabulous session down at The Stud who really looked after us  while we were there. The session in Betty's was another quality evening I think I staggered out of there very late in to a very wet and miserable night/morning after we got locked in with Toking Tom and the GMan, Betty was a great person who looked after us as well 8) I think I took the long walk back to my hotel and got back there around 3am or maybe later. What a fantastic 420 spent with a great group of ACD members :D

Great write-up as usual @Lemming along with some nice pics of C.S.'s & the 4/20 gang.
Wanted to visit DNA and De Kade in 2022, just never got around to it. Will definitely put it on
the list to visit in 2024.

Friday 21st April 2023 - Smokeup Day

It's smokeup day so it could get messy! We're preparing ourselves with breakfast at Café van Zuylen, near Grey Area.

From there it's into Sativa for coffee and a stock up. Igraine fancies some more Lemon Cherry Gelato. They only have these discounted small buds so they go straight in the Mighty.

Image

Next we catch a tram to the Leidseplein. We pass Bulldog, Get Down and Rookies on our way to Terps Army's new shop.

Image

Image
Motor Breath

We're joined by Trad and Sam and there's soon a serious session in progress.

Image

Sam and I take a little walk around Vondel Park, leaving Igraine and Trad in Terps Army with all the paraphernalia.

Image
Sammysarahh

Image

A short circuit and then back to the coffeeshop, where Igraine and Trad are ready to move on.

Image

We stop briefly at Superskunk for more stock and then catch a tram back to the centre. There we settle in at Batavia where we're joined by Occasional Bowl, Gapie and Bedge.

I'm conscious that we haven't yet dedicated a special joint to FBN and HullDJ. That means we're gonna need more weed so I shoot round the corner to Gelderse and get a couple of grams of Shoreline, that favourite of Ed the Head. From there I continue to Solo where I get some Lemon Cherry Gelato and Orange Zkittlez.

Back with everyone in Batavia, I recruit Gapie to do the honours.

This evening has been designated as the time for Trad to "kill" Gapie again. Not literally, of course. The objective is to try to recreate the last night of 420 2019, when Gapie was declared "dead" after a session with Trad and me.

That night in 2019 started with a crawl down Harlemmerstraat so, as the sun sets over the Damrak, we set off in that direction again.

Image

That brings us to Barney zone. In the picture below, Uptown is on the extreme left, the Coffeeshop is in the middle and the Farm/Brasserie on the right. The sign on the door says "Barney's Brasserie is temporarily closed".

Image

We pop into Barney's Coffeeshop to make use of their Volcanoes. That leads to the munchies, which we hope to satiate at Barney's Uptown. When we cross over to there, however, we find it's rather full.

That brings us to MissB by La Grotte, as it's known these days, where we consume some food and beer to keep us going.

Image
La Grotte by Igraine

Continuing to retrace our steps from 2019, we pop into Smoking Bull but don't stop. Instead we go to Hill Street Blues. Finally, after a bit of a session there, we return to Batavia.

Image

Despite yawning here, Gapie is still going and Trad is flagging. In the end, Trad admits defeat and declares Gapie the winner. Indestructible! Truth is, we're all wasted. Mission accomplished. :D

Home tomorrow.

Fantastic report Lemming, as always.
The last photo tells the story graphically. He won that round but, it's best out of 3. 420/24 will tell .

Saturday 22nd April 2023 - Home Journey

Today is the day to check out of our hotel. Our tram passes have expired so it's a gentle walk towards the station. Then just time for a quick session in Siberie.

Image
Siberië

And that's it. Airport and home.

Another amazing Gathering comes to an end. Huge thanks to the fantastic bunch of people who floated around Amsterdam with us. You were all great company.

Here's the traditional cast list. It's the usual mix of veterans and first-timers. If there had been 24 of us it could have been 4 & 20 stoners baked in a coffeeshop.

Cast

Bedge
Docgonzo42
Gapie
Ghost
Gman
Igraine
Lemming
Marok21
Mike
Mjhowy
Nuggz
Occasional Bowl
Phoenix
Sammysarahh
Tokeing Tom
Trad
Worsall

We were also joined in two dimensions by FlyByNite and Hull DJ.

We never did go back for a boat but it didn't seem to matter. Maybe next year, eh? :D

Thanks @Lemming a really good read. The pics from the paintings in Siberia are really smart. Was there one of a stuffed doll with a pin through it? I may have a pic of it if I can find it, I think there was around 4 or 5 cool paintings on the walls in there. An excellent 420 - 2023 with the ACD gang - :D  8)
