Cannabisbevrijdingsdag in Antwerp

On the day that the Dutch celebrate their liberation from the Nazis, in Antwerp they'll be calling for the liberation of cannabis. It's cold and damp, so it'll be interesting to see the turnout. I'm planning to report later, with pictures.

Bit of a damp squib. It was raining when I set out, and not much was going on when I got there at around 2.30 (it was supposed to be varied events from 2 till 10pm). Two policewomen (one of whom is probably the tallest officer of either sex I've ever seen) seem quite adequate in terms of crowd control as they looked on. Maybe 20 people there.

I go for a walk round the Cathedral area and have an ironic Guinness in an Irish pub. When I return at about 4.30, there are perhaps 50 people, if I'm being generous. I take some pictures, including one of the policewomen, and slope off, thinking that I have time to return later in the evening.

But later it's wetter and colder, and it seems unlikely that many people are going to want to stand about listening to speeches about why things should be legal. Well, I don't, for one, as I know it, and there are warmer and drier places to be. I'll post the rather depressing evidence later.
