De Lantaerne or Hortus?

Post by Guesty »

I keep looking at a map of the city, and cant help thinking that im going to be miles away from the the centre.. i mean which of these two are close and how long by foot do each one take to get to say the station?

Plantage and Leisplenien (forgive spelling )

I just hope to be nearerer to centre, althought Leisplenien sounds very busy nightlight etc

please advise if its far etc

cheers

Plantage is a very nice area around I7 to J8 and beyond on the ACD map. It is a little out of the action but only about 20 minutes walk from Rembrandtplein and maybe 30 minutes from the station.

The Leidseplein, around B9 on the map, is a lively area.

Leidsplein is a great area...and not that far at all. I was in love with the Trams so hard for me to judge walking timing...but about 5 minutes (tops) on the tram.

They say on the website that the Hortus is 15mins from the station, Got it sorted though, i think we are going for the globe hostel with the sports bar, this seems perfect central location!!

Would this be better than the other 2 i suggested?

The Globe is indeed in the thick of it which to me is a negative as I'm a very light sleeper although I always bring earplugs.

Considering the above I'd rather stay near Leidseplein which at my moderate walking speed is about 25 minutes to the RLD or 30 minutes to CS. A 3 day tram pass is EUR 13 and allows unlimited rides to all Amsterdam locations 24 hours a day. It's a 10 minute ride from CS to Leidseplein.
