Five weeks, four days, and counting...
I am hoping for some advice/ help planning for my weed-feast. I have been dreaming about doing a meal with a smoke paired with each course instead of a wine for forever. We finally have an apartment and some friends with us, so it's finally time to get cooking!
I've decided on a South-East asian menu for the meal. The goal here is to provide a complete sensory experience, ideally with a strain of weed that will compliment the flavors of each dish, as well as providing a complimentary stone.
For anyone who wants to play along, here's what I'm cooking. You suggest a strain/hash/combo for a particular course or courses.
If all goes well, I'll take pictures and post recipes after the trip in case anyone wants to replicate it. I may still eliminate a few courses, as this seems a bit excessive, even for me.
tom kha gai (thai chicken and coconut soup, probably with mushrooms)
Papaya and green bean salad
Nam sod (ground pork and ginger salad with basil and shallots)
peanut noodles
seared chili-garlic flank steak, with thai pesto (coriander, lime, peanut) and cucumber salad
coconut panna cotta with mango
dark chocolate chili-ginger truffles and coconut brigadeiros (brazilian coconut milk-caramel candy)
thai iced coffee
I'd be happy to explain any of the dishes in more detail if that'll help people.

Hey geekymonkey,
I am always up for Katsu so that would be great; as the time nears we can work out details. De Pijp is really cool, I kind of wish I had booked an apartment there as it is one of my favorite parts of town. I'm in the Plantage this time right next to Hortus Botanicus.
Your menu looks awesome - you have some lucky friends !! I love South Asian cuisine and I order that soup nearly every chance I get. The flank steak with thai pesto sounds so good its making me hungry. It would be tough to choice any of these to eliminate maybe one of the meats and/or one of the sweets. Since you intend to pair each course with a smoke perhaps fewer may be safer in one respect - you don't want to find one of your guests face down in their panna cotta
What a great idea, best of luck with it. As you have no doubt have read here or elsewhere, the Albert Kuyp market might be a good place to start out looking for your ingredients.

I think I've narrowed down plans for dinner-
Tom Yum Goong Soup (Thai soup with shrimp and mushrooms in spicy coconut broth) with individual joints, because I want the steam from the soup and the aroma from the weed to mix in the air. I'm also thinking something hazy, pretty purely up to get things rolling. I'd like something citrus-y with a little herb or funky notes. Maybe super silver haze or super lemon haze or something like that?
Nam Sod (Ginger and Ground Pork Salad with Fresh Mint and Coriander). If I can get my hands on a vaporizer this would be a good time for it. I'm not sure it's worth bringing mine from home. This dish has nice strong savory and herbal flavors, and a bit of a greasy smoke might be nice with it. Something like sour diesel, nyc diesel, or maybe even a kush? I'm worried that all of those might be a little intense for a second-course smoke.
Flank Steak with Thai Pesto (Coriander and Peanut) and Peanut Noodles
Bong hits for this course, because people will need to use a knife, a fork, and a fair bit of concentration to eat at this point. I'm really open to suggestions here, at this point in the meal I could go a lot of ways with the smoke.
Watermelon Salad with lemongrass and mint granita. This will be cool, crunchy, sweet, and easy to eat. I think joints again because the course is cold, and joints will help ward off brain-freeze. I could either go with a few big joints to pass, or individual. I'm a bit worried that a few of the guests may be a bit lacking in endurance, so the advantage of passed joints is that people can hang back who need to. Individual joints are of course more decadent. (Definately the birthday boy should get his own joint, and I don't want to share with our best-friend because he will definitely hog it all... decisions... And of course a really fruity smoke for this point. If I can find something like the Utopia Haze from last year that can really cut through to deliver a clearing elevated high, that will be the choice. If not, I should look into the landrace sativas, because the effect will be good- although I'm not sure about flavor.
Coconut Caramels, Chili Ginger Dark Chocolate Truffles, and Vietnamese Iced Coffee- The best I can find of white chocolate, chocolope, vanilla kush. Perhaps even a sampler or pair of the two. At this point I think we'll just grind up a bunch a people can free pack and roll, whatever they are in the mood for at that point.
If you're still reading- congratulations, you are also a geek.
I would consider mixing in hashes, but need suggestions- what hash would you add, and where in the meal?
Peace,
Geeky

I was just sorting through photos and came across a few from last year that I thought people might enjoy.

Two weeks and one day...I can not wait! As a bonus I am super excited beyond belief to see out best friend. We were all in grad school together and had the good fortune of hanging out several times a week for years.
When my husband was in the ugly throes of writing his dissertation, D showed up with a sack of Jamaican Lamb's Breath and a friend's vaporizer at the most key moment.

Has anyone smoked some good Jamaican strains in the 'dam lately, and where?
Viva- I'm a geek about most things...as is probably very clear to everyone by now, but geeks rock!

LMAO love your sense of humorgeekymonkey wrote:This weed is extremely visual and horney. Any weed that has you fucking through the jet lag, hunger, and lack of sleep gets an A+ from me and the Mr.
I thought I was the only weird woman who said a certain weed made her horny, geeky. Seriously I said that about Bio Bio from Picasso a couple of years ago, talk about 'cut from the same cloth'. I even prefaced it with "Call me crazy, but this one made me horny".
One of the most intelligent, well written, concise reports I've ever read, girl. The pictures are top notch as well. You most certainly should pursue your writing and photography as you're VERY talented! Let me know when you're going to be there next, geeky, I'd absolutely love to meet you... we'd have one helluva time.
You may not live in the U.S. right now, but you're a U.S. Stoner Chick all the way. Oh yeah one more thing - I'm a geek too.

You know it's been a great trip when you wake up the next morning with a serious buzz.
I just wanted to mention a few highlights, for those who are out and about on the town for the next few days.
My five favorite smokes of the trip were:
Bas Special, (Basjoe) which came back in on Saturday morning, so it is fresh fresh fresh and tasty. Right now James has cooked up something very fresh tasting with a powerful warm relaxed stone. It is as light on the lungs as any indica I've ever smoked ever, with only a light grab. Tasted like lemons and fresh forest.
Vanilla Kush (Amnesia), What a great Kush! (And for you Kush fans out there I have a few very fine Kushes to tell you about.) It's a real lung grabber, as Kush's tend to be with a strong heavy grip. The good news is that your gasps and coughs will taste like bourbon vanilla with a whiff of stanky kush so you remember that you are smoking weed. The effects include a nice prominent stone along with some lovely high notes that I'll tell you more about later. Heavy but not too demobilizing for an indica.
Buddah Cheese (Basjoe)-Happy Happy Joy Joy. If you want to go have fun and not be flattened smoke this. It's warm and happy with a giggly functional high. It's also sweet and delicious with some interesting cheese notes. Really the taste is lovely for daytime, not so strong it will kill you. The high is lovely and goes really well with the great June sunshine. I smoked this again and again and again. Every time we bought it we smoked it until it was gone. (Is on the Menu just as Cheese.) It is pure magic in the daytime. It also has enough of a bottom on it to keep the high from being too racy. I think if strong sativas can tweak you a bit, this would be a great choice for an up weed.
For Hazes (they are great as always and I have a bunch to tell you about, the standouts of the category were: the Blueberry Silver and the S-5 from Noon/MY, Heaven Haze from Basjoe, and Utopia Haze from Barney's.
SIDE NOTE:
The Terminator is out right now, but James' Isolator is great stuff
(and only half as expensive). My husband called it electric. It's like turning the lights on. It appears expensive, but it's all crystal so it goes a long long way. Sprinkle a little on a joint or bowl and it really is super super charged. So visually stunning that I think it could probably get trippy in large enough doses.
Reports and Pics are starting tomorrow. I have to entertain work colleagues of my mr's today. Full city tour and everything. I'm still so buzzed. This should be fun.
Peace,
Geeky
