End of an era - 11&12/04: Eindhoven

Post by Semprini »

I was over in Eindhoven for a couple of days last week and managed to squeeze in a bit of time to visit some of the coffeeshops. It was fantastic as always but the visit was tinged with sadness as it was the last time I'd be able to frequent the various smoking establishments.

Got into the centre around 10.30am on the 11th and headed straight to the Grasshopper, only to find that it was shut. There was a sign in Dutch on the door that I just about worked out to say something along the lines of, 'sorry we are no longer open for business'. Was pretty gutted about this as I had heard it wasn't closing until the 13th but the plans obviously changed. Headed round to the Pink which was open and asked the friendly female budtender what she was recommending. She steered me towards the S5 Haze at the top of the menu (alongside the SSH) so I bought 15 euros worth, which was 1.28 grams. Was a nice smoke with a typical haze flavour - left me pretty stoned after one joint so can't complain really! Went for a ride around the centre on one of a number of searches I made for the Wall over the two days (didn't find it this time) and finished up just in time for the opening of De Bakkerij. It was very nice enjoying a beer with a joint, something which is sadly becoming a rarity in Holland. Bought a gram of Amnesia, which I think was about 12 euros, and was another decent smoke.

Made another joint for the ride back to where I was staying and was pretty smashed by this stage, so much so that I managed a ***k up of monumental proportions that was scary at the time but very funny on reflection. I was out there with a group of people who had no idea of what I was up to or that I smoke at all and we were staying in a load of villas (I can't really go into anymore detail than that but let's just say I would have been seriously embarrassed and in trouble if anyone on the trip had of found out). I pulled up on my bike with the intention of saying a quick 'hello' to the people I was staying with, before swiftly moving into the safety of my room. As I walked in, I saw that there were a few of the other people on our trip in my villa so I made some very small talk and went through to where my room was. I then passed someone else from the group who I was surprised to see in my villa but I was now at the door of my room so everything was all good. However, when I looked through the door, I noticed my clothes and case weren't there. There was another case there, but it wasn't mine. It was just as I saw the last person looking at me as if to say 'what the ***k are you doing in here?' that the penny dropped - I'd gone into the villa next door instead of my own!! I then had to walk back through to the lounge area where all the others were and try to think of a reason why I'd wandered into their villa and through to someone else's room. I can't remember exactly what I said but I think I managed to (just!) blag my way out of it. The feeling of relief when I did eventually get out of there and into my own room was immense - I could have really done with another joint to calm down but that wasn't going to happen!! Went back to the Pink in the afternoon and bought a Space Cookie. I had this later on in the evening and it knocked me out. My intention was to lay on my bed for 20 minutes but four hours later at 3am I woke up wondering where I was!!

Got on my bike early the next morning and headed back into Eindhoven for an all day session. I'd noticed that New Wave was also closed the day before so the only option again was the Pink. Had a brief chat with the male owner and asked about the new laws coming in. He said it was 1st May and that his business was going to be severely crippled by it. Sat down to have a joint and a Looza and managed to get some directions to the Wall from another customer. Still managed to ride past it the first time but went in on the way back and bought a gram of Brilliant Haze for 13 euros. This was the best smoke I had on the trip - had a lovely taste and heavy stone. Went to De Bakerrij for a couple of hours after and enjoyed a few more beers before heading back. Made one final trip into Eindhoven later that evening and went to De Bakkerij again as the Pink was closed. Bought 0.5 grams of Bubble weed for 5 euros that was nice and a ready rolled hash joint that I smoked on the way back.

I had a great experience over the two days but it was hard at times to try and forget that it was the last time I'd be able to do it. Thank you Eindhoven, it's been a pleasure!!
