Nice link don and nice to read a reasonably accurate article about the wietpass and the background political action spinning around it.donpacino wrote:http://www.celebstoner.com/201207289656 ... erdam.html
Wonder how this story will play out in the mainstream media?
How much did you produce?

Picked up a rumour , that if the Wietpass comes in (let us hope not) - there will be a 3 day tourist option for Amsterdam.
Better than a poke in the eye with a dirty stick , as they say.

Just a guess but that sounds like Amsterdam council trying to circumnavigate the law by signing you down as a temporary resident.Dave near London wrote:Picked up a rumour , that if the Wietpass comes in (let us hope not) - there will be a 3 day tourist option for Amsterdam.

Not wanting to count any chickens yet, and having only a rudimentary understanding of the Dutch political process (at best), I just have this sense that the momentum is on our side at the moment...

Yes even the VVD in Amsterdam does not want the Wietpas-Slip & Sal wrote:http://www.vvdamsterdam.nl/danielvander ... icle/3354/

April 29, 2012 - On 1 May 2012 the wietpas introduced in the three southern provinces. On 1 January 2013, the rest of the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, there to be. But what might work well for Roosendaal and Maastricht does not work well for Amsterdam.
The wietpas, or "Club Card" as he is officially known, is of Dutch coffeeshops private clubs. A coffee shop may have more than 2,000 members. Only 'registered Dutch residents' can wietpas applications. Foreign tourists are from 2013, so a closed door.
The Amsterdam VVD see our capital more drawbacks than benefits and therefore oppose the introduction of the wietpas.

This maybe the beginning of the fizzle out as it seems discriminatory by region now. For instance, Utrecht council specifically states that the wietpas is being forced on them by national policy and now we read that there is an opt out for Amsterdam ? Why should places like Utrecht comply then? The 350m rule will knock a third of coffeeshops out in Utrecht anyhow come 2014.
Another point: who wants to fly in from the US to have to register that they are actually smoking a controlled substance given the data sharing policy ? Making life potentially difficult for a lot of people ! Sounds unworkable and/or a major pain in the ass (obtaining a temp.resid. on weekends for instance .. good luck with that).
Don't trust any political parties till after the election ... because who sold out in the 1st place ... those with the majority of seats i.e. the VVD !!

It ain't over...
The link from where I copied this quote from can be found in one of the many weed pass threads. Carmen Santiago will be easier to find...
"The coalition agreement says that tourists will be banned from coffee shops in the whole country," a spokeswoman said. "What accommodation there will be for local requirements has not yet been finalized."

"What accommodation there will be for local requirements has not yet been finalized"
"accommodation" read special allowance. "Local requirements" read amsterdam.
