Biggest defunct chains?

Post by avfc-herbalist »

Hope everyone’s well.

Was looking through the directory and noticed Fancy Free used to have 3 Coffeeshops. (I love the 1989 photo of Fancy Free.)

Are there any other ‘big’ Coffeeshop chains that are no longer around?

I know De Rokerij had 3 Coffeeshops before they had their licence taken away.

I wonder why Fancy Free went from 3 Coffeeshops to none. Anybody know?

I find the history of these Coffeeshops so fascinating.

Thanks Lemming.

Never heard of Real Thing and they had 5 Coffeeshops. Wow!

Any ideas as to why they shut up shop/sold their licence?

Were they a reputable chain?

They all closed long ago. I don't think I ever visited any of them and I know very little about them. I'd love to hear more or see pictures if anyone has any.

I did visit Fancy Free and took the picture. Nearby Old Style was cool too.

I’m with you on wanting to hear more. A picture would also be great, there were 5 of them so surely there could be at least one photo of at least one of them somewhere .The Real Thing logo on the Directory, was that their official logo?

Just looked up Coffeeshop Old Style and read the few posts that’s on the forum. Senior Hippies have an unfinished loyalty card! Little bits of branded stuff like that from defunct Coffeeshops I find really interesting. Just like the T-Boat lighter Roccy Tittzenbeer posted.

Is there any sort of memorabilia thread Lemming?

Idk, Grasshopper? The only proper chain left must be Bulldog but it's diversified there: bars, hotel, giftshops etc so it's more like selling the brand. Not counting GH as it seems to be a different deal with them:)
