Flavour?

Post by KeyMonCha »

What happened to the terps?

Been getting steadily more frustrated over the last decade about my perceived decline in both the variety and strength in the flavours of the green I've bought...

In the UK, I've put this down to the prevalence of the quick home grows for profit, but I'm more concerned about the industry in general, pushing strength over flavour profile, and that philosophy seemingly affecting the majority of the strains available, especially in the Netherlands, but also at home...

I think it's been degrading rapidly since around 2012-2013, and on my most recent visit, I failed to find a single strain that I genuinely thought was tasty...

...I can't even find a haze that tastes like haze!?

I do understand that things have moved on, and that vaping, Dabs and rosin, etc, are the preferred way to enjoy those subtleties, but I'm a smoker , and I like a spliff...

So, I guess I'm asking if there's anything I'm missing?

...Am I the only one who's really bothered about taste?

...Do you prefer how weed has evolved over the last decade or so?

...Are there any strains you've had recently that buck the trend?

Any recommendations for my next trip would also be greatly appreciated!

Incidentally, I think flavour peaked in 2012 with a particularly exceptional batch of Silver Bubble from Voyager's! ...My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Great subject. Leaving this here for a proper reply later.

Zoap, Ice Cream Cake, Lemon Tree & Cap Junky are some of the newer strains that have grabbed my attention for their flavour.

Yeah, I did have a nice specimen of Zoap from Maximilians in Haarlem last June... Probably one of the better tasting of that trip...

Do you remember where you bought your batch?

I've had an ok Ice-Cream Cake from a local dealer, but I can't say I've tried the real thing...

...Lemon tree sounds right up my street, though...

...The word, "Lemon" alone on a menu used to almost guarantee me making a purchase...

...I'll deffo keep an eye out for that one...

Cheers, Jolly!

@KeyMonCha

First time I tried Zoap was from Family First and then De Kade had a very good example for a little while.

The best example of Ice Cream Cake and Lemon Tree I've had was a friends that he got from a telegram guy. I was looking back on my old trip reports and the first time I tasted those sweet, savoury and cakey terps was a strain called Cream Pie.

Lemon Tree is one of the only buds that tasted just as good at 170c up to 210c in the venty.

Not tried the frog poison yet but I ain't paying "cali" prices. Hopefully The Stud will have some version of toad venom at their more reasonable prices when im in town.

You've just reminded me of another couple of newer strains that I found tasty. Apple Fritter and Apples and Bananas.
