"Amy, I don't know what to say, you might just be cooler than me now." DrD said to me after I had told a particularly rousing story of one of my misadventures.

"Aaww, D, that's the sweetest thing you've ever said to me, but have no fear, that will NEVER be true. Once a geek, always a geek."

And to prove it I told him about what happened after I bought my bud at Mellow Yellow. And since I often get the sense that people are nervous about looking like a rookie in coffee shops, I will share the story with you as well.

Image

!En Fuego!

I sit down and immediately tear into the nug of the S-5 Haze. An wave of sweet perfume instantly hit my senses. Bushels of limes and sweet floral haze makes a mouthwatering combination and my fingers trembled from anticipation as I finished breaking up about half a gram of the bud onto my rolling paper. My fingers were sticky and covered in sparkly crystal when I lifted them to my nose for a closer sniff. For the food geeks out there, the S-5 Haze smells just like sweet limes with some herbal notes reminiscent of kaffir lime leaves. So limey that it makes the limes jealous. I licked my fingers clean. Yum.

I slid the paper forward and my mind went blank. I tentatively picked up the paper and knocked some of the bud on the table. The paper moved awkwardly in my hands. I couldn't figure out how to hold it. "Think, Amy," I said to myself. "Surely you know how to roll a joint." My brain coursed back through the years and the many many many joints I'd smoked for any information about how to turn this into a smoke-able object. And found...nothing. Had I even closely watched someone roll a joint before?

"Princess," I hissed to myself angrily. "How can you have smoked as much weed as you have, and not know how to roll a joint."

Image
Mellow Yellow's Chocolope

It's a good question. The best I can say is that as a girl, I've never been called to roll a joint. They seem to just fly straight into my hands from the universe, all juicy and ready to be sucked down. What happened next was not pretty. Eventually I managed to cobble something together that appeared smoke-able.

I nervously fired it up, and first my head went up like a balloon. High, high, high with a jolt of energy. The exhale smelled like heaven. Not one bit of that beautiful floral lime smell had been lost in the burning. It now all seemed to be on my tongue. Before I could even begin to savor the hit, a little edge on my joint started to burn. My eyes got wide with concern and before I knew it, the entire joint burst into flames.

WHOOSH

Startled, I dropped it and immediately smothered it with the lighter. That bitch was burning so hard that the flames shot around the sides for one concerning moment before going out.

I was so embarrassed I did not even look up, so I have no idea if anyone even saw. I just scooped the remains into the ashtray, picked up my bag, and jetted out the door.

So, If you happened to be in Mellow Yellow Wednesday afternoon and saw a chick looking like a total rookie and almost lighting herself on fire, yeah, that was me.

I wasn't three steps out the door before I started laughing. There's no room for shame in Amsterdam, it will only get in the way of a good buzz. I immediately found a head shop, purchased a lovely glass piece, sat down by the side of the canal and made friends with the S-5. I couldn't sit for more than a few moments though as the sativa high was so powerful my head and heart were both pounding and I was ready to go go go.

A Note About The Watermarks:

I was asked on another thread why I started watermarking my images, so I figured I would explain here as well. I had a bad experience with some other photos of mine (not weed or from here) being taken and reproduced without my permission for commercial purposes, which sucked. I found out during that event that basically if you don't reserve the rights to your images, you don't have any.

It's not intended to keep you all from using these. If you want any of them for personal use, just pm me and I will happily email you clean versions of whatever images you would like. I also have most in larger formats.

Peace,

Amy

Chi- The advertising campaign would be epic.

Think about the print images that would accompany the "There is no room for shame in Amsterdam."

And the commercials...

I brushed the dirt off my butt, and cut back over to Vijzelstraat to grab some groceries. As I walk I realize that I am seriously high, its warm, and the sun is shining. Lovely. Until... I can't find the door to the AH. I walk past three times. I see groceries inside. I see a man on a ladder. Is the door behind him? Are there people inside? I can't really tell. Maybe they are closed? No... Well, fuck it. Groceries can just wait then, I decided and I continued up the street towards Basjoe's.

Image

On the walk over, I had to admit to myself that I was hardly off to an auspicious beginning, and the S-5 Haze was so racy that it didn't pair fabulously with embarrassment and frustration. My heart was still pounding and my head was starting to hurt but the closer I got to Basjoes, the less I could manage to care. I was determined to have a great trip so I gave myself a stern talking to, "Amy, you will not be bummed out if James does not remember you. He sees hundreds and hundreds of people a week, and you haven't been up for eight months. It's not personal. He won't remember you." Feeling sufficiently girded against disappointment, I couldn't contain my grin as I pulled open the glass door.

James looked up from a pair of customers and a smile broke across his face. I was only halfway to the counter when he came out to hug me with a warm, "Amy." His greeting filled me with a warm rush of joy. It's nice when people who you think are special seem to like you back. I gave him a second hug from Island Girl that he seemed to especially appreciate (I made sure it was a warm one IG). He went back to the customers he had been helping when I came in and I grabbed a stool at the bar, but not before he passed me a beautiful nug.

Image

Honestly, the pale sage-colored nugget was dense and frosted. It smelled like heaven. Sweet and a little cheesy. I quickly packed a large bowl and took a mighty hit. A gentle warmth began to spread through my body, and by the time I set the pipe down I couldn't contain my giggle. James looked over to me and I exclaimed, "It made my nose warm!" "Jaaaaa," James replied in his slow drawl. (Mmmm, makes me smile just to remember it. I love everything about that man.)

Image

We spent some time catching up, during which I smoked my way through the delicious nug of Big Buddha Cheese that James had handed me. The high just kept getting warmer and warmer, creating a nice stoned balance to the happy, almost euphoric high. At the same time, it stayed both mentally clear and relaxed, a rare combination. The flavor was also super appealing, sweet and a little spicy with some interesting herbal notes and an undercurrent of oily cheese, that seems to drift lightly in and out. Before I could blink, it was time to head over to Amnesia to meet DrD and crew, so I sadly hugged James and left with a big bag of beautiful Buddha Cheese (Cheese on Menu) and one of Heaven Haze to share with everyone, and promises to return en famille.

No worries Twich- I didn't feel criticized, but your question made me realize that it could appear unfriendly, which wasn't my intention at all. I love everyone here and I certainly don't want to impede other people's enjoyment of the images. That's a lot of the reason that I take them.

:) I'm glad it conveyed. I told my mr that if he ever were to die tragically, my next mission will be to head to Amsterdam to seduce James. (After I recovered from the crushing grief of course)

"I don't know whether you have ever seen a map of a person's mind. Doctors sometimes draw maps of other parts of you, and your own map can become intensely interesting, but catch them trying to draw a map of a child's mind, which is not only confused, but keeps going round all the time. There are zigzag lines on it, just like your temperature on a card, and these are probably roads in the island, for the Neverland is always more or less an island, with astonishing splashes of colour here and there, and coral reefs and rakish-looking craft in the offing, and savages and lonely lairs, and gnomes who are mostly tailors, and caves through which a river runs, and princes with six elder brothers, and a hut fast going to decay, and one very small old lady with a hooked nose."

Amsterdam really reminds me of J.M. Barrie's Neverland. Maybe it's just because it always tickles my inner child.

More from Peter Pan:

" Of course the Neverlands vary a good deal. John's, for instance, had a lagoon with flamingoes flying over it at which John was shooting, while Michael, who was very small, had a flamingo with lagoons flying over it. John lived in a boat turned upside down on the sands, Michael in a wigwam, Wendy in a house of leaves deftly sewn together. John had no friends, Michael had friends at night, Wendy had a pet wolf forsaken by its parents, but on the whole the Neverlands have a family resemblance, and if they stood still in a row you could say of them that they have each other's nose, and so forth. On these magic shores children at play are for ever beaching their coracles [small boats]. We too have been there; we can still hear the sound of the surf..."
