When ever Edith gets up and around, comes down and opens up. Usually around 11AM. Sometimes earlier, sometimes not at all.
The saddest news is that she just lost her court case, has to pay court costs, attorney fees, and a fine. At some point in the very near future she will have to vacate and this lovely one of kind coffeeshop will cease to exist. She can use all the visitors she can get in the mean time. A great place to buy antiques, junk, and souvenirs. She has become a dear friend over the past few years and is always a regular stop on a Ganja Tour.

I went to Sanementereng on my recent visit (12/18-12/30) and tried the Chocolope and the Haze Pollum. They were both 12 euros a piece. The Chocolope was pleasant and actually one of the best samples on my visit. The Haze Pollum tasted like tobacco and paled in comparison to other hash samples from other coffeeshops. The woman whom I assume is the owner came in when we were leaving. A woman who told us she couldn't recommend any weed because she didn't smoke was behind the counter when we arrived. We saw a snoozing cat on the staircase and a lot of interesting relics. Fun times.

visited Sanementereng a few days ago, as had read favourable reviews on this site and liked the sound of it.
could be a brilliant little cafe, but the budtender was just short of hostile and the weed was poor; bought some viking bio and silver haze and there wasn't a bud to be found - all dust. shame, the viking bio could have been lovely, had it not been crumbs...
not sure why the service was so very unfriendly - but from the outset she treated us as though we'd just gatecrashed her flat and smoked all her herb. again, such a shame, as the cafe itself is awesome - stuffed with all kinds of of hippy tat... could have spent hours in there but, alas, i like nice weed and feeling welcome, both of which we found round the corner at cafe 1e Hulp instead.
I've been requested by Jackie from Ganja Tours.com to get the word out regarding the demise of a unique coffeeshop in Amsterdam called der Santementereng. The owner, Edith, has been given a baliff's notice to clear her building by June 6th!!! There is a city council meeting this coming Tuesday regarding the issue and a protest is being planned.
Please, if possible, spread the word about the closing of Amsterdam's hippest coffeeshop. The place is veritable landmark. The building, in it's present state, is rather daunting due to the fact there are huge wooden posts propping up and preventing the facade from completely falling into the street. It has been due for "remodelling" for years, but the current contractor is disallowing the coffeeshop to remain, once remodelling is completed.
The real bummer is Sanementereng is more of an antique shop than a coffeeshop. Yes, you can buy weed or hash and can smoke it while perusing the artifacts of many cultures. Definitely rivals the hipness of any odd shop in the Haight. It is one of those rare leftover remnants from the seventies.
If anything, the owner Edith can use all the support and love she can get. Please, please, please find out more. Dig deep.
Sad to see this shop closing.
I was in here in March and the owner/tender was very friendly, the bud was just ok I had her Viking bio which was a good bio bud but weak...
The shop though was pretty cool with lotsa junk to look through but limited tables to sit and chill, her drink prices were very low compared to others overall cool shop worth a visit.
The shop was closed yesterday. Jackie helped Edith the last two days box stuff up and move it to her home down the street. Today the police came with a thug squad and moved the last remaining pieces into the street. Fuckers. 665 coffeeshops left.
She says it all at the end of the video : " the most unique coffeeshop in Amsterdam" .its a real shame that some of those tourist holes get to live and this has to die .Maybe now on my next trip I will try the shop at the end of the street this was on .
