Hi I will be going to mellow yellow in a couple of weeks from Miami fl. It will be my first time in the Dam my dad went about 15 years ago and had an awsome experience at mellow yellow and even made friends with the owner at the time of still the same.My hotel will be around the corner from MEllow Yellow so I'm thinking I'm going to spent a big chunk of my week there. According to some reviews i read that some bartenders are unwelcomeding and that locals give tourist the cold shoulder. My question iz are my plans of being smoking fatties back to back with my wife and a chill bartender a fantasy or iz mellow yellow still the place I hear my dad rave about when specking of Amsterdam

The current budtenders there are a bit young so hanging with them is unlikely (never say never though). Having said that, the atmosphere there can be very nice and you can find yourself easily hanging out with the many American and other international customers. When the shop will be filled with locals I suggest stocking on some of the deals there (5g/50E S5 etc) and head up to the center.

You'll find there's two kind of coffeeshops, locals (MY, De Graal etc and loads more on the edge of centrum) and tourist Coffeeshops (Grey Area, greenhouse, hunters, abraxas, bulldog etc) some a bit of both (Basjoes, Katsu, etc) and with mellow yellow we had an apartment last year in the side street so i popped in lots and I've always enjoyed going in and buying, rolling and taking in the madness but it can be quite nuts as the rainbow of local heads troop in so be prepared to watch and wonder rather than chit chat. For gods sake try the Nepalese jungle hash and the 'size 7 and a half' (very high grade morrocan) as they are two of the finest bits of black and morrocan you will find in dam - then head down to the Market and find Katsu half wY down where you should definitely be able to sit and strike up a semi civilised conversation with someone, they are very cool old style coffeeshop owners and have a big table with chairs and plants and stuff, very chilled :). Enjoy my friend

The bongs are dirty plastic pieces of shit. The one they gave me was broken, (the downstem wasn't sealing, the rubber grommet wasn't seated properly) so I fixed it, then gave it back without using it because it was nasty.

congratulations on being able to visit amsterdam in the footsteps of your dad and experience the coffeeshop culture ... but in addition to visiting mellow yellow for historical reasons, you should be aware that your dad had his "mellow yellow" moment at mellow yellow, but you might have your "mellow yellow" moment at a different coffeeshop in a different part of town ... finding your favourites is what a visit is all about ... so visit mellow yellow, smoke one for your dad the pioneer, and then head out and see what the other places are like ... there are real gems around to discover

one great locals place is paradox ... there are people of all sorts dropping in for either a quick buy (and to have a word and a laugh) or a longer stay for longer chats, reading the newspaper, chilling, eating the toasties and vegetarian burger to ward off the muchies, staring into space, whatever ... highly recommended .. for a suggestion try the super silver haze and the moroccan "wash" hashish

finally i just want to double-check that you have read the document How not to get hit by a bike from the excellent S G Collins website recommended by FlyByNite

if you have already read the document, then thanks, but if not, then please please read before you arrive to ensure your safety in the crazy amsterdam traffic, and thanks

have a great trip ...

ps i would suggest just buying a small pipe for a couple of euros and upon your departure leaving it with some new arrival who might need a pipe for the weekend too

Your are totally right it's just he raves about MY alot but I will look into as many coffee shops as I can To see which one suits me best. Again thanks for all the info it's been very helpful in having a somewhat idea about how my first trip to the dam will be amd what to expect. Also thanks for the link on "How to not get hit by a bike" good to know.
About the pipe that's most likely what ima do or buy a fair sized bong and maybe leave it to the coffee shop that made me feel the most like home.

You can buy a small pipe (glass/wood )for a fiver, perfect for hash on a bed of bud...andif you go to Katsu,as you enter ,theres a long wooden table to your left.thats where the locals sit and chat and smoke and read the papers, for most of the day especially around lunch time, but then allthe c/s's around there are locals hangouts...Have fun, you'll love it ,its a way of life

Last week enjoyed a couple of hours at Paradox , which is a superb , cosy , friendly hang out with a good mix of locals (enjoying much banter and jokes) , with a steady flow of visitors. Very comfortable ambience in there , papers and magazines to read , board games - and of course the superb SSH and other products.

Have been to Mellow Yellow twice , its ok - but the upstairs section gets really hot and smoky (even with just 4 of us in there !) - however , in view of its unique history , it is a must do place which is always worth a visit. Menu is excellent for choice. (but only bought a pre-rolled White Melon J this time , which was fine !) - had too much else on me at the time, and time running out.

i must say the atmosphere is terrible and just one budtender (the white short one) is actually helpful, the others have a very thug like attitude, and the atmosphere is crap but..................... the sativas are very good (advice: buy'n'fly, or go upstairs), and their space cakes for the price/effect beat any other coffeeshop.

I been there in the evening to meet one friend smokin' a spliff. When I joined I asked one tea but the dealer told something like "this is a coffeeshop, you need to buy my weed to stay here". To be quiet I taked one gram of Amnesia 8€ per gram, too wet but maybe it is ok for the price.

very nice shop with two floors. They have Blueberry at 7.50 euros per gram and 25 euros for 4 grams. Nice smoke, not the strongest but very nice still. Now, the S5 Haze is in a different level. At 10 euros per gram is a great buy, its effect is very hazey, very high, very nice smoke.... the s5 haze is a must when you visit this shop. The bud tender was kind and the S5 haze left me crazy and wanting more of this fantastic strain from a fantastic coffeeshop
