I appreciated the comments. I don't know if I'm being narrowminded. Probably closer to the truth that I'm broken hearted. Buying dope on the streets of Europe isn't a gimme by any means. The concept of community was and is well developed in the coffeeshop system.

I'm angry that they did this. I guess we've got only one shot at reversing this, the elections in September.

Hmmm, I guess it was in 1996, when the licensing system had just been introduced. There was a lot more purp then, something possible because cultivation wasn't outlawed until 1999, after US Drug Czar Barry McCaffery threatened to put Holland on the narcostate list.

What did Apple say about Miles Davis? 'Think Different'. That's why I put down the Europe comment. That there are places in the world where stereotypical views are given a little room to be cast aside. Difference is, or was, characteristic of Europop since the rise of disco and punk. And that ruling pols held views and administered social policy in ways that no other people could.

The Dutch are breaking a relationship with all of us, a level of social interaction and mutualism that they basically thrive on as humans. It's tragic. Never had a Dutch girlfriend, but there are always plenty of them on the planes and they love to drink and talk. She was part of the welcome, someone who made Holland sound great, before you hit Passportcontrole at 8 in the morning.

In the hostels, you could make friends with people from every country in the world. No, I'm afraid you misread my comment. Walking on the streets of Europe with a sack in your coat and a Walkman playing was part of the glory of being alive. Buying in a coffeeshop made you realize that some places in the world were truly meant for you and received your wishes.

You will definitely dislike the negative conditioning against drugs that you will have to now stomach in order to go there. And people like to go forward, not backward, as they get older. The hotels are seedy, lots of aggressive people, and it gets cold. But the level of excitement won't be there. Probably all of those people will go to other places, Morocco, Ghana, Jamaica, India. You will all be upset because youre being cheated out of what was supposed to be your birthright.

There will be a lot of broken hearts. You could, I guess, go to Cambodia or Laos, and have a Happy Pizza and some organic nugs. Not as safe, I suppose...

I guess I consider myself lucky to have seen it and lived in it for many years. I'm very disappointed in the Dutcg

What a load of bollocks. So I guess you must be much more disappointed in your own country and people than you are with the Dutch, cos wherever you're from won't ever have been as liberal as Netherlands.

Birthright, lmfao, medic, we got another casualty over here.

And by the way, love your stereotypical views of Dutch women on planes.

Oh, I see. So maybe you should be disappointed with your own stupid country that, in spite of Nol van Shaik's brave efforts, failed to move cannabis out of Class B. Numerous articles blame the Brits for this pass because of the 'nuisance' your roguish behavior included.

Oh, and am I to presume that talking to Dutch women is offensive and forbidden? Why? I was merely trying to point out that Holland was a friendly country. Until thugs like you started pissing in their yard. Whatever it is, all of us will wake up on 1/1 and because of somebody's bad behaviour, have no right to smoke cannabis.

What a colossal mistake I have made, thinking you were a friend. Enjoy your wietpas, don't smoke dope!

its got nothing to do with us brits, drunk, thuggish or otherwise, nor our stupid country. The weed pass has been implemented due to drug tourism and smuggling on the boarders Holland shares with Germany and Belgium. I don't advocate it but if you want to have a pop at any specific groups aim it towards the people from those countries. If you want to start commenting on a topic such as this on a website such as this then at least read up on the facts first. Its not hard, there is pages upon pages on the ACD forums alone, and stop behaving like an uneducated twat.

And why would I be disappointed in my own country? One that allows medical marijuana, 17 states and counting? With places where pot is no more than a $100 infraction? What's 'bollocks' is your attitude. In 40 years, after all your big speeches and preaching, after all your pretenses, you failed to move pot legalization in Britain forward even one centimeter. They're not listening to you, you want to know why? Because you're not worth the trouble.

When I say 'birthright', I do not doubt it for a second. Go into the Barney's at 7:30. Always young people, always expecting to be served. You are just fooling yourselves by thinking that we are casualties for speaking our minds. Probably you favor the wietpas because then you'll create another class of suckers disenchanted and desperate for a fix. Or, maybe you could herd all those kids into rehab and cut down their entire life, because you didn't have the nuts or the brains to keep up a policy that probably should have stayed intact.

Dealer exploitation of the user is simple. Like poetry. It depends on people having no rights. Let me make something clear: the legalization issue does not depend on Holland, and no one has to support you if you trat them like s$@t.

I don't think so, sir--

The idea for the weedpass originated in 2003. To get called a'twat' by you isn't surprising because Brits are iffensive people. If you must know, French President Jacques Chirac was the first to complain about smuggling--that was in 1997.

I doubt we're doing coffeeshops any service by blaming Germany and Belgium. 'McDope' was proposed for Maastricht in 2005, &then mayor Geerd Leers ambulated three choices: legalization, moving the shops out of the city, and the Pass. Anyways, this is not a problem to be researched: Trimbos keeps up good stats on Dutch use and addiction. The problem isn't the tourists, but a weak government that we didn't fight hard with. Despite Josemans losing his case for the second time, the other commentor's comment about bribing seems more true.

Yoy don't have a clear picture of what you will lose. The Dutch themselves will have to register and give their bank details. No more 'coffeeshop crawls', you will be allowed entry in only one shop. A lot of people have posted that it's the end-Amsterdam's shops depend on the crawling. Blaming the Germans and Belgians isn't fair--two countries that legalized possession rather than sale.

To say that no 'nuisance' is caused by tourists is also unfair. Some tourists abide peacefully and others don't. We are not superhumans, but intelligent enough to support a fair and just policy.

Headed to Stockport, eh?

I never called you a twat, I said stop behaving like an uneducated twat, but it appears you didn't listen. As a regular tripper to Amsterdam I can assure you that on the whole us Brits are more than welcome in town, more so than Germans (for obvious reasons), and possibly Americans too. Any nation can produce a nuisance, or the opposite. Either way we all need to hope that the weed pass doesnt happen

I see this issue as nothing more than Conservatives vs Progressives (Liberals). It's a fight going on across the globe. Conservatives hate gov't control unless it suits their agenda. The right & left wings of govt's/society are full of nut jobs/idealogues. The vast majority of western world citizens tend to stand in the middle; being fiscally conservative & socially progressive. The swing from left to right and back left will continue....for eternity. The weit passs is just a byproduct of that swing...imo.

hahahahaha.... you guys are like little fucking babies arguing here....

guys... we are probably fucked... UNLESS.... shit hits the fan in the border towns. (unfortunate but probably our best hope)

that or the elections in sept... and someone with half a brain decides to stop this nonsense and remove the weed pass idea.

right now the coffeeshops are feeling it already. i'd say 20-30% decline in traffic to the shops/city.... you really notice it during the week.... its dead... last year at this time the place was rockin'.

cross your fingers for something good to happen.
