Ideas for your own coffeeshop

Post by ZBeebs »

I've got a room in my basement that is approximately 11 ft by 13 ft that I am turning into my coffeeshop. It has a new tile floor, and the walls are red and the ceiling is yellow (we put the tile floor in the basement, but this room was already painted the wild colors). Right now I have my drum kit, guitar, a keyboard, a chair and a table that has a pair of 100 watt bluetooth speakers that pairs with my computer or blackberry for streaming music. I've got a 15inch flatscreen TV and DVD player I could add as well, but in the next room I've got the big screen so it's probably overkill.

I'm looking for ideas. I'm not sure I like the colors, and just don't know where to start. I've got access to printing equipment so I can blow up a photo to cover a wall or two, and may have found a photo that I like, for one of the walls at least. (It's a photo that geekymonkey posted in her travel thread).

Also, if you know where I could look to find very high resolution/large file size photos of Amsterdam and coffeeshops let me know.

A good investment might be a Volcano or verdamper.

Find a local starving artist and have them do an Amsterdam street scene mural on one of the walls.

Surf eBay or Craigslist for Amsterdam related posters and pictures.

I comfy chair and small sturdy table for prep duties.

Greenery, even if it has to be silk plants.

The wildest lighting you can come up with. I would love to have the lights out of the old Barney's.

Aliens seem to be a popular thing in coffee shops.

That'll give you a little to consider.

Enjoy

Thee are great ideas, I especially like the idea of having a mural done. Please keep 'em coming.

imo, in a coffeeshop i rekon a tv is not such a good idea, it always kills conversation and draws peoples eyes even when on mute.

a screen showing visuals or something would be better.

i always love floor cushions with low tables for drinks/skinning up

also i like it when you pin fabric to the cieling in such a way that it creates the look of being inside a bedowin (sp?) tent.

Totally agree. TV with no sound is pointless, unless it's sports, but trippy visuals definitely works. I was buggin' out with some of the weird shit they were playing on the flatscreens in Dampkring 2.

Yeah, I think a TV could a bring a level of tackiness to it; lose a bit of the conversational jazz running through the place. People would just sit stoned on the couch watching TV and sitcoms.

I would design a coffeeshop as a small cafe; very good, strong coffee, a nice selection of cakes, small toasted foccacia menu, and then a small but impressive menu of weed (no more than 5). Then you attract a particular type of customer, because the weed is limited in number, but high in quality. Also, inner-suburbs as opposed to inner-city. So a bit out of the touristy city center.

Although I know this is typically against how most coffeeshops operate in the Netherlands, I would promote the cafe more, as opposed to the coffeeshop side of it. But that's just me wanting a small, regular community.

Continue... lol
