one stoned dog. A dog's xmas story
The other night, I went to a deadhead bar that my friend owns for our holiday gathering. One of our friends in in from Humboldt for the holiday and wanted to see the people we went to Jamaica with last year. We all gather at the Shanti and proceed to exchange gifts. One of the gifts I received was some very strong Brownies. I come home that night and place the gifts on the counter in the family room. This counter has a couch backed up to it on the other side. I went to bed and took Pearl my dog with us. The next morning, she is in the family room while DH and I get ready for work. DH leaves before me and I am getting ready to walk out the door when I remember the brownies on the counter. I did not want the dog or cats to get into them. I went over to the counter and the bag is empty! I am freaking out. I know the dog got them and ate them. I can not call into work because I am too new here. I’m almost in tears. I can envision it now, the dog starting to freak out on the brownies when we are not here. I call my best friend and she is off and agrees to go over and check on her. She arrives and the dog is mellower than usual and has a bit of a hard time to go outside. But when business is done, she volunteers to stay at the house and watch a movie for a while. The dog would just lay there and not move. Eyes open. After a few hours my friend calls me and states that no problems. I am somewhat relieved. I get home after 13 hours of work and there is my baby. She doesn’t do her usual greeting me with wines and a jump but slowly mosys over to me. I pet here and notice her eyes look funny. I watch her for a few hours. Notice she is still having trouble walking a bit, and her ears and eyes are weird looking. We go to bed and she goes with us. No playtime before bed tonight like she usually does. I am so saddened by this. The next morning she is in my face like usual and wants to go outside. She is messing with the cats and back to her old self. I am relieved. I have learned my lesson that even on the counter, your animals and kids can still get things they shouldn’t.

I'm glad your puppy is ok! (If not I would feel like a really horrible person for laughing as I read the story.)
Too bad you didn't get to enjoy those brownies yourself.

Cat, glad your dog is OK.
Shame about those brownies though....
I have a similar story about my dog from 30 or so years ago. I was out "on tour" seeing many Dead concerts and arrived back at my parent's house with 4 hours to spare to go to my brother's engagement party. I was a physical wreck and passed out on my bed before I could secure my backpack from my very mischievious, would chew on anything collie. (I think you all can see where this is going...)
When I woke up and was rushing around to get ready, I noticed some chewed up matter, looking like a cross between barf and dirt. Oh great I thought, the dog ate something and threw up. I'll clean that later....
Well, when I went to take a hit of pot (in the shower, so that the house would not reek) my bag of pot was gone and I was freaking out as the party was about to begin and we were expecting about 75 guests.
I remembered that pile of barf in my room and was thinking , oh crap, the dog ate the weed! On further examination, it was indeed my pot. The bag was chewed in half, half was missing out of about an ounce. It was not throw up, but chewed up pieces of weed, spit out by the dog.
My mom wondered why the dog, who was normally a bit jumpy around new people, was so well behaved aound all the guests, very mellow and napping alot... The dog was fine the next day.
Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

LOL Im laughing about it now but wasnt at the time. It just goes to show there are no after effects of pot. But when the dog was swaying back and forth, I had trouble not laughing also if I wasnt so distraught. lol.geekymonkey wrote:I'm glad your puppy is ok! From my experience, the chocolate is more dangerous to dogs than the cannabis in brownies.

I have a russian white cat who loves the smoke, everytime when my partner and I smoke joints he's always up trying to get the smoke. Though recently we've been smoking super strong applejack. Can't understand why he loves it so much when our Russian blue hates it. No more smoke for the wee boy!
Re: one stoned dog. A dog's xmas story
I am glad your dog is OK.
However, please be careful with chocolate around dogs. While milk chocolate is less dangerous, it is still really bad for your dog and can kill him.
Next time, you may want to consider a trip to the vet...if he got sick or worse from eating the chocolate, what then?
And I agree...eating the weed isn't going to hurt your pup...but the chocolate might...
Also avoid giving your dogs avocados, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, foods sweetened with xylitol, peaches and plums (because of the pits, which contain traces of cyanide), raw fish...to name a few...

Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?
