It has been closed by the police, the owners were involved in a 10 kilo deal with a German.

I have family in Utrecht and visit twice a year, and Sarasani is always my first stop. The choice is huge and the quality is top notch. The staff are also really friendly and always greet you with a smile. The coffee is free, soft drinks are cheap and the weed and hash are very reasonably priced, you often also get €2.50 free when you spend €10! The chill out area is very dark and lit by UV with comfy sofas and benches along the side and a huge projector at the end showing music videos. It's a great place to go with friends or even by yourself for a joint. There's some turtles in a terrarium by the door that are funny to watch when stoned. I've been to many coffeeshops in Holland and this is the best by far.

Rather big choice of weed and hash for reasonable prices. The interior is the best there - there is possibility to sit on comfy couches or just lay on the ground level. The best part of it is the music and video clips. The sound is really qualitative one and the clips are starting from Bob Marley to Rage Against the Machine. If you are lucky you can buy icy juice, but it is rare, when they make it and I didn't find any pattern there.

Definitely the best coffeeshop in Utrecht, and purportedly the oldest in the Netherlands. Amnesia Haze, a multiple cup winner, is the top sativa pick these days, together on a list with other very good weeds and they regularly change their selection. They also have a great hash menu, with strong "kif"-like Dutch hashes as well as classics like Black Bombay, Super Charras and Nepal. Beware the potent space (weed) muffins, fresh from the oven if you're lucky. A super-friendly staff, free coffee, 50 eurocent teas, chess sets, a large indoor turtle pond, and a steady stream of music videos projected on a large wall round out this "gezellig", dimly-lit, underground coffeeshop. A favorite with backpackers, international students and expats. Now open from 16h00 daily.

Tried their suggestion, which was good, borrowing the house bong.

It's the best shop in Utrecht and they are very kind there. The cannabis is really good. Also there is a nice feeling. Everybody is always friendly. It has special deals the same as Jonkheer in Vianen. When you there on Tuesday you are lucky, you pay 12 euro and you get 5 euros for free. It's on the weed and hasj. Also when you pay 25 euro you get a little present: 5 euro for free and a joint a la cart.

Sarasani for me is completely and without a doubt the best coffeeshop of the city. The location is really nice (you have a nice little bar to wait opening hour, and there are two music bars 100m away, the Pothuys -www.pothuys.nl- and Cees's place -www.ceesplace.nl-). Recently, (last week), they removed the turtle bowl in the first part of the "cave". In the main part, everybody is sitting on "floor sofas" or on the floor in rush hours. There is a giant screen on the wall with music videos (Bob Marley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Cypress Hill, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd and a lot of others). The sound is also really good. I think it's one of the main good point of Sarasani. In some other coffeeshops the music is just radio or bad sound. Here you have great quality of sound and image for good music. The coffee, milk and sugar are free and the coffee machine is working non-stop so that there is always coffee. While you are smoking with your friends and enjoying music, someone regularly pass between people to empty ashtrays and take empty cups.
The quality of weed is also very good. Especially the "Sweet Dreams" (15€ for 3 gramms) I discovered there, the "Amnesia" (same price) and the "Gruis" (12€ for 3,5g) a kind of mixed weed. The service is really nice. Most of the time they offer you tips and paper for normal buying (not 2,5€!).

Oudegracht 327 a/d werf (means
ON the actual canal side, NOT the straat called Oudegracht)- really nice
smoke, est. in 1968, two big spaces, good prices - really good smoke,
friendly and chilled. Only open in the evenings at weekends (well worth the effort to find!).
It had the same kind of vibe as
Kashmir Lounge in A'dam- really really good place.

Though we didn't visit this shop (well, not when it was open, anyway! D'OH!) , it's worth mentioning that it is at canal level, hence you need to go down the nearby steps from street level to get to it. There's a street-level sign by the steps you need to use.

Sarasani is one of the oldest, best coffee shops in the Netherlands. Great staff, great selection of weed, great atmosphere, great prices. What else can you ask for?
Sarasani is very dark, with mostly U.V lights. That is because at the end of the coffee shop there's a big screen, where they play DVD's of live performances. Their favorite one at the moment is the Bob Marley tribute concert, but they also show Joe Cocker quite often, and Santana. If you're lucky, you might come in a night when they're showing the best of Tom & Jerry, or even other random cartoons. You can also ask for a chess set, which you get for free. Free coffee is also available. Their only problem is their opening hours, usually being 7PM to 12:00, 12:30 if you're lucky. It still is definitely one of the best in Holland. One more thing, don't forget to try the space cake. Superb.
