and I was completely devastated to be leaving. I've never felt so comfortable in a place. I had the most amazing time, met the most amazing people, and fell in love with the sweet sweet whore that is Amsterdam. From the moment I arrived, I was just in awe. It's so completely different from anything I've known here. The city is old, beautiful...there are gorgeous women everywhere you look, good god...I've never seen so many in one place. I had some reservations about some of the bad stuff I've heard about Amsterdam...the RLD in particular, with the drug dealers and pushy prostitutes. I encountered both but never once felt physically threatened, save for once this prostitute was trying to drag me into her kamer by the collar of my shirt, but I escaped. lol (She tried to do it every time I passed her door, in that narrow alley next to the Bulldog Gottahaves..watch out. lol) Of course, the weed and hash was superb, I must have tried about 20-25 strains in 2 weeks. The Coffeeshop experience is great, but to me it was more about the people than the smoke. I met so many great people from all over the world in coffeeshops, pubs, random beer stands, etc. Some who I think I'll most likely correspond with for a long time. By the end of my trip I think had more friends in Amsterdam than I do back here in my hometown. Heh Lol. Well, needless to say at the end, I didn't want to leave. and I still feel like it's where I should be. So now I'm considering attending the School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam, and/or trying to start up a small business there so I can stay for awhile. (Since I've realized its a challenge for Americans to stay in the EU) but I think it's within the realm of possibility for me. I met a few people in Amsterdam who even offered shelter for me when I decide to come back and stay for awhile. I know everyone likes to talk about how impossible it is for Americans to go there, but I'm determined. Fuck what they say...I'm gonna do it.
This was just something I had to get out there, I'll post an actual trip report sooner or later. I lost half my pictures though, damnit, because of a faulty memory card. Thats what I get for buying it off of E-bay.

I usually have a meeting on the evening of my last entire day In Town. What an emotional roller coaster that last day can be.

on our last day, we had four roach/skunk joints, three blueberry joints, and two bowls of jelly hash to smoke -- before 10:45 a.m., when we had to make our flight. we smoked a couple joints in the apartment and the rest after rastababy opened (it says 9 a.m., but it's really 9ISH, more like 9:15-9:20).
all that weed, and i still felt shitty. and it didn't end, seriously, for more than a week, until an absolutely absorbing work task took me back to reality.
yet, given as much time as i'm spending on here, i don't know how far back i really am, more than a month later....

Yeah, it's a dreadful feeling. Especially for us going back to the U.S(or me at least)...I can't honestly say I was a fan of my own country before I went, now that I really know how great Amsterdam is, I completely loathe being here. I missed my family, of course, but thats the ONLY thing. and most of the time I was having too much fun to even miss anything. Shit, the IND.nl website makes going there sound a daunting task on paper.. [edit: okay, maybe its a bit much for a young guy like me, i should probably go to school there first and then take it from there. i'm just still in post-amsterdam-depression.

You might consider doing what I did and relocating to the Rhein-Ruhr area of Germany...2 hours to Arnhem or Venlo, 3:15 to A'dam. It is not easy for Americans to stay here, but a fair bit easier than in the NL. This is not as exciting of a place to live as A'dam, but it has its upsides, especially if you like soccer. It's also not terribly expensive, even considering the deplorable $ exchange rates.
