The city was one big party, well at least the parts where the tour was, other places were as empty as during the lockdown because everyone, not just fans, saw this as a once in a lifetime chance for a unique experience and (ofc, it is Copenhagen) a massive party
The feeling you get when the riders fly past you, just centimeters away at speeds between 50 and 70 kph needs to be experienced, it is wild and these guys are brave beyond words. You find yourself making loud exclamations of disbelief and in a state of very tense excitement, when these guys brush against the barriers or barely keep the bike under them, while skidding through a 90 degrees turn on wet cobblestones going 40+ kph...
We walked around a third of the route, stopping several times where we found good spots to see the riders and ofc making a couple of detours for smokes, finally breaking off at Nyhavn and crossing the bike / pedestrian bridge at the end, to have a few beers and smokes with our friends at the lab at Christiania brew house and watch the conclusion of the stage on their big TV
We were lucky enough to see several of the GC contenders and time trial specialists fly by, including Tadej Pogadcar and Wout van Aerts right after each other at a great point where they slowed down from max speed and went through a tight turn, and opened up for another high speed straight, incredible
Looking forward to today's stage, think it is going to be very interesting, there's quite a bit of wind and the final part will be a nightmare for some if they are split into groups. The stage screams break aways and many of the local riders looking to make a mark and GC + sprinter teams trying to keep things calm up to the final part, great stuff. Massive crowds have already gathered along the route as well, so it looks to be another party today!
