It’s Thursday early morning, May 13th, and I’m back home, so will be reporting in retrospect, not live.

First takeaway from this city break, the first since COVID, is that the wonderful city really hasn’t changed much in the last six years.

Yes. Six!

But there are always subtle little changes that catch the eye. For example, the property at Haarlemmerstraat 44 has a bit of a facelift and a subtle rebranding: what, back in the day was Pink Floyd, then Dampkring 2 and Coffeeshop Amsterdam, is now Amsterdam Genetics. Menu is the same, as far I could tell and a lot of the CS Amsterdam bits and bobs are still all over the place, eg, the printed menus (food and drinks). Another thing that has not changed at number 44, are the dazzling young women that make you coffee! Most notably a blond young Australian, whose name escapes me, who was serving on Monday evening when I made my first port of call after checking in to the hotel.

The opening hours are eccentric, by which I mean flexible. They’re basically open all day as a dispensary (and the guys look like doctors in their white lab coats!) but food and drink service may or may not be available, depending on staff available (ie., the hot chicks!)

After charging up the brain cell’s batteries there, it’s a stroll over to Night Bar The Bottle, in Oudebrugsteeg.

It’s opposite Snoop Dog (what was De Kroon) and for a while, I understand, was rebranded as De Kroon bar. Interior and vibe totally unchanged and anyway, had reverted back to being called The Bottle again, so if you didn’t know all that, you’d never know that anything had actually happened.

Anyway, I wasn’t there at that time.

A brilliant end-of-day stop for a couple of Heineken, something like €5.90 for a small one (half pint) and of course, finish the Amsterdam Genetics pure Super Silver Haze preroll, about which I have no complaints at all.

And then, after all that, it was Tuesday 12th May, 2026.

Which was a whole other day…

It was.

And that was just the first evening.

On Tuesday 12th, it was more of the same, with even more cool chicks from all around the globe!

I mention that as an aside.

Wednesday 13th, however, was a whole different kettle of fish, as we say in the UK (ballgame, in US)
