That's a real shame about the Haring mural. What a silly thing to do, it's already been hidden for years as it is.

Yeah it's super weird - like this little strip of land must have a building on it. Maybe it's a visitor centre or something but even then I would think ruining the line of sight from distance defeats the purpose of a large scale artwork like this. I was thinking of emailing somebody about it, there's some individuals mentioned in articles about the restoration - I imagine they know what's up.

Little update on the Keith Haring mural situation.

I have contacted somebody who was involved with the restoration and told them about my experience. They said they "know that it needs some love again" but were out of the country so couldn't spin past to check it out. So they asked for a photo.

Now I didn't take a photo but I found a recent one on google which shows the exact situation I saw.

The response to this was this is ok as there was previously a building on that spot which was demolished and this is the replacement. They said there was ample room to view the mural between the buildings.

This implies of course you must now enter the Amsterdam Food Centre and look from relatively close up (or find a new viewing spot and get a presumably more oblique view).

If I remember correctly @HitTheNorth took a photo which in my memory was across the water where I looked from (I can't confirm because the image is no longer available in the trip report). So assuming this to be the case @HitTheNorth visited the mural after the building was knocked (date unknown but after 2017 from photo evidence) and before the new one began construction (fairly recently) and so got a good view.

So good news is the mural should still be viewable just not from this spot. Also it has been designated a national monument so should remain protected.
