Has to be Dolphins for me, I love the place, I think more people would vote for it if it wasnt too far from the RLD. I like where it is situated btw. Nothing better for me than to chill out on the couches downstairs with a cheese and ham toasty and a chocomel after a great joint and a few goes at the vaporiser. I was there a few weeks ago and made sure that my hotel was close and will be doing so again in November when i'm back!

Least favorite has to be Barney's:evil:, the guys where rude and fair enough they turned down a few mates that didnt have I.D (expected and I even agreed with them and told my mates that coffeeshops can be strict) on them but the way they delt with us was unreal and I can say that they are lucky we are not violent men because they got right up in our faces at one point when I tried to purchase. Went back the next day and everyone had I.D this time and it was a bad atmosphere, we came back to try the weed nothing else and it was like we had came in and raped someone, it wasnt just us though there was a few people that said the same thing so we got talking to a few others and headed to popeyes where at least we werent treated like convicts. Nice weed, cant fault them on that.

WTF??? Seriously, the distance from the RLD? LMFAO. What an utterly juvenile and totally lame reason. Adding insult to ignorance, the majority of shops in Amsterdam are less than 2km straight line distance from the Oude Kerks. At best, most shops are less than 1.5km from the center of the RLD.

As for Barney's, let me break it down for you:
1. No ID, no service. Always has been, always will be. FAIL on your mates part.
2. No excuse for rude behavior, although you were there and know what triggered the response from the establishment. See #1 above.
3. You were lucky that events didn't escalate into physical violence, because people would have been arrested, banned from Barney's, and quite possibly deported.
4. You returned to the scene the very next day, what were you expecting, all is forgotten? Not quite mate.

Hopefully your mates, and you as well, learned from this experience.

Peace

Dude for one it was not me who had a problem with the 10 minute walk to Dolphins it was my mate and it was his birthday and was his first time to Amsterdam it wasnt a lame excuse as he couldnt moveafter what we put him through lol.(so obviously they didnt put Dolphins when voting even though I told them to go with me)

As for Barney's it was not just us that thought they were very rude and out of line, we went back to pick up and go and brought I.D this time, sure we got the weed but the attitude was real lame and once again people had agreed and told us that they have been like that with alot of people, in the end it was a pick up and go and we went on not wanting trouble. I said nothing about us getting violent but if we did we would be banned but it would have been their fault for that not ours.

I appreciate the rules but you were not there so you dont know how they were, the fact people who we didnt know left because of their attitude towards us says alot aswell.

We all went to have a good time not to cause trouble we are not that kind of people and if you believe we are somehow wrong in this then I suggest keeping your opinions to yourself as its not exactly fair of you to comment at me like im some sort of Noob, you we not there and the people in the CS agreed with us, some even left with us to go across the street to Popeye's.

My comment about distance was in no way meant for you or your mates, only a reply to your statement of how there are some who don't, for whatever reason, venture beyond the RLD.
I admit I was somewhat abrasive, but if you take a step back and re-look/re-think the entire episode, there are lessons for everyone. My advice, if you are with others, do an ID check. If someone forgot theirs, tell them to go back and get it. Also, put a little peer pressure on them for forgetting it in the first place (has to pay for some gear/drinks). In addition, if you are from another country, not a good idea walking around without proper ID, take it from me. I forgot my passport in my room and no more than 15 minutes underway, I was asked for ID by a Dutch Immigration Official. Not good! We returned to my hotel where I promptly provided my documents. Totally embarrassing. Totally my fault.
As for the rules, I did state that you were there and you knew what happened, I was merely speculating. I agree that bad/aggressive attitudes displayed by some coffeeshop employees is unfortunate and in some instances, unnecessary,. One point to consider is why some of these people display such attitudes. Some are just plain assholes, no doubt, and shouldn't work in the service industry. Most others however have become acclimated because of how people treat them. Just saying.
Obviously I don't know you, but I do not consider you a Noob, just someone who has had a bad experience because of the behavior of others. I hope that all of your future trips to Amsterdam, and the Netherlands as well, bring a big Cheshire Cat smile to your face.

where is Katsu?

O.K...voted for the shop I most liked from the selection available. The poll should definitely have Katsu though.

Couldnt agree more, for me best selection of hash was at Katsu hands down apart from the Bluebird, Bluebird is better for blacks, Katsu for me was best for highest grade Moroccans, plus it feels like a locals place to read a paper or book and chat and spliff and was my favourite place to chill, quite small though so a good seat is essential! Well worth a trip on the No. 24 or 16 tram, it takes no more than 10 mins and 50p to get there from Central Station/Dam Sq but a whole world better in quality from many of the more central shops :P :P

I voted for Dolphins.

Despite only visiting for a short time a couple of years ago, my friend and I had a great time in there! We helped out a delivery guy carry some crates of soft drinks upstairs (steepest stairs I've ever seen in a building!) and got free drinks and a share of his homegrown blueberry all day :D

Hopefully I'll have more experience of other shops after my next visit but Dolphins is definitely the one to beat so far 8)

Well i voted for Grey area, only because of their menu/quality of weed. Would of easily voted for the Greenplace if it was an option, excellent menu again but also room enough to enjoy it and not have to buy and fly.

The 20 shops in this poll were selected because they were the ones with the greatest number of positive comments on the main site when I started this topic back in 2005. Since then many individual coffeeshop topics have been started and each has its own for/against poll. I’ve long thought it would be interesting to get a summary of those polls in one list. Now, at last, I’ve applied some SQL to the database and got a snapshot of those polls as of today. This may not be 100% accurate because there are some inconsistencies (some shops have more than two options in their polls, for instance) but it should be mostly correct. I hope it makes interesting reading.

Interesting indeed . Thanks for the info, and work that went into it . I've not voted on that list though , as my favorite AMS shop isn't on the list (Basjoe)
