anyone planning to be in dam for the last weekend in May?
...I am hoping to be there then from Thurs-Mon (the Uk bank holiday weekend) and am happy to try and hook up with fellow stoners from this forum...i hope to get a bike and shoot round a few select places scooping up some fine hashes/buds etc and then relax for a few days smoking them and popping into some coffeshops Ive been meaning to try out for ages...

Sunday the 29th is my first night in town. I'll still have the "training wheels" on it being my first night and all but would be up for meeting another forum member. I'm pretty sure that others will be around as well.

TB,
This will be trip number 3 for me. The "training wheels" comment was due to the fact that I nearly "whited" on my first trip mere hours after landing. I have learned to start real slow for the first day or two and let my tolerance build up. I've read a lot of your posts and it seems that you really know your hash. If we get a chance to meet up, I'd love to hear some recommendations and toke a little with you. Katsu is my favorite shop (it was my first;) I'll probably want to visit it on my first day again. Have you been there? I hear they have some good hash but I haven't tried any of theirs. I keep meaning to explore hash more when I am in town but I find myself too busy with the buds

Hi Blueridge and nice to chat to you, yes I found katsu for the first time last trip thanks to this forum, and its an excellent place in every way. They have some lovely hashes too, some only found there..the morrocans and the blacks they have are superb, hopefully by the end of day one I will have a selection to compare...oh the decadenceblueridge wrote:TB,

If we end up meeting there then you might want to staggeR onto DeGraal for an incredibly uplifting pollen that I couldnt see anywhere else and onto mellow yellow for their jungle nepal and size 7 1/2 morrocan....both are no more than a 10 minute stroll in opposite directions from Katsu, or less on two wheels. De Graal has loads of locals playing chess if you are partial..
probably wise to take it easy, i had my whitey on day two last trip, i was smoking everything under the sun but it was the chocolope from Grey area that knocked my feet and head away in the middle of a girls Accessory shop nearby where my girlfriend had popped into, had to hold onto a pillar in front of all these young girlies buying hair slides etc, degrading or what...

Hey TB,
Nice chatting with you as well and thanks for the recommendations. I may have to devote a couple of days exclusively to hash this trip so I can try some of your suggestions. I don't smoke regularly at home. So I need to be especially careful when I first hit town. I like the sound of that uplifting pollen at DeGraal and I have not yet been to that shop so I think I'll put it on the must visit list. I think I will try to stick to the more uplifting stuff as I tend to become a zombie on the heavy indicas. I've heard some say that the high from hash tends to fade more quickly than the high from weed does. Do you find this to be true? I kind of like that idea as once I get really high, I don't think I can really appreciate the stuff I smoke afterwords. Of course the solution to this is moderation but doesn't sound like fun nor is it my natural inclination when it comes to weed.
I love your whitey story. Why does this stuff always seem to happen in the presence of young women? I had a similar embarrassment on my first trip. I was very stoned and stepped into a cafe for lunch. I was going to simply sit down somewhere but then thought I should wait to be seated by someone. I turned to see this beautiful young Dutch women, maybe 20 and blond with blue eyes - just gorgeous. I mistook her for the hostess and asked when I should sit
Her eyes widened and with a sort of indigent look said " I don't know. Sit wherever you like." I mumbled some sort of apology as my testicles shriveled up and retreated up into my body. What would turn out to be my waitress then come over and rescued me and was very kind. If I ever remember where that place was I hope to go back and thanks her.

Blueridge - I think youll find we all have ultra embarrasing whitey stories on this forum, Ive had a whitey going down the spiral staircase in Bluebird (which is almost life threatening) amongst many others, its part of the dam experience one might say...
Yes hash recovery times are quicker, with the exception of a good nepalese or hi qulaity Afghan as these can just send you to sleep...id suggest staying on the pollens and the high grade morrocans in the daytime and work up during the day/evening to the blacks, that way you will appreciate the difference etc
Alternatively do whatever buds you are comfortable with and then move onto the hashes later on to feel how they cut through the bud stone as you get the CBD hitting your feet/head as well..
Anyhow, thats the theory, none of which will apply no doubt....
By the time you will arrive I will hopefully have worked out where the nicest/cleanest/most uplifting hashes are to be found and will gladly guide you if you need it. In fact this is a bit of a blessing as Im going with the eternally long suffering girlfriend who doesnt puff so by then I will be gagging to sit and share types of hash/buds and compare notes with a fellow spliffer, whilst she sunbathes/wanders around Centrum doing something more innocent/normal

Hey TB,
Thanks for the input. Hopefully we can meet up somewhere and you can give the up-to-the-minute hash report. I keep your advice in mind regarding the pollens and the progression from light to dark as the day or trip progresses. I've had hash before but it was not so common in the States when I was smoking regularly. I tended to prefer the blacks as the blond hashes I have had always seemed too dried out and tasted like incense. I'd be happy to keep you company while your girlfriend occupies herself otherwise. By Sunday she may welcome the break after being dragged to a seemingly endless series of coffeeshops. She sounds like the patient type. I had heard that Nepalese was suppose to give an uplifting high as well. I have never had any. I look forward to trying the pollens. On my first trip I just bought what I thought i was more familiar with - a black hash called King Hasan from Coffeeshop Carmona in DePijp. It was real tasty and quite strong as I remember.

Hi again Blueridge
...indeed by the time you plop into dam if i dont have some real fine proper nepalese temple balls to share with you I'll be very surprised, so you can hopefully tick that box by the time you go home! As you mention it can be highly uplifting - after all it should be, I was told in nepal that it was traditionally made in the temples in the Himalayas (aka 'The Roof Of The Gods') for Sadhus to smoke on pilgrimages as they journeyed in the Himalayas - and i dont mean just in the last few years or even decades, we are talking since BC 1500, which is the approx date that the Bhagavad Gita was written. That is a fuck of a lot of beautiful lush pure hand rubbed dope that has been smoked over the years by all those merry stoned Hindu holy men, never mind us lot piling in. We must be talking hundreds of tonnes or more, jeepers!!
it can also be very soporific, all depends. Last trip the first thing i smoked the minute we arrived was some Jungle nepal hash from Mellow Yellow which was an amazing start, sort of shifted reality 10 degrees straight away and then ten minutes of contemplation of 'was that really a good idea' followed, as my patient and forgiving partner looked at my suddenly drooping eyelids and silly grin with mild concern, but half an hour later I was fine and ready for more/different so Im sure you will be having agreat time and trying new things...(just re-read this tale, it was supposed to encourage your sampling not put you off btw
)
For me my cherry-to-be-popped this trip is to grab some terminator from Basjoes, as you may know from this forum its supposed to be very heavy and overwhelming if all the reports here are to go by. I know its not oil as such but that was something quite special we used to get in the UK in the 80's commonly, so im looking forward to pushing a new frontier one evening when im already safely back at the apartment and can just float off...teehee

Hi TB,
Perhaps I could have figured this out from your choice of forum name but it seems that you are partial to the Nepalese hashes. And no worries, I didn't find your story off-putting at all. Usually I welcome a high that lasts a long time but I in the dam I find myself conflicted between wanting the effects to last but still wanting to be able fully experience the next sample. The phrase "spoiled for choice" comes to mind. I take it that adding temple ball (the hash) to my "must try" list might be prudent.
I did a search for De Graal. It sounds like a really great shop - mostly locals, good gear, decent prices and friendly service. These are all things I look for in a coffeshop. I think I even read that they have a roof-top terrace of some sort - sounds interesting. Let's hope it doesn't have a spiral staircase to get to it - I hate those things even when not stoned.
My "cherry" this trip is also one of the ice hashes, though I'm inclined to start with something a bit more moderate than the Terminator. Many years ago I smoked some hash oil - they called it honey oil. It was the color of a dark honey and had a consistency that was a bit thicker than honey usually is. I remember my friend spreading a little across a paper before rolling a joint with it and you could definitely taste it as it burned. I also remember that we were both really stoned before we even finished the joint and that did not usually happen with the weed we used to get back then. I hear that coffeeshop Bluebird has a decent deal on some ice hash. I have never been to that shop but like De Graal, I have read only good things about it. Since I'm staying on Hortisplantsoen its pretty close to my place as well.
As we get closer to our respective "magic days" we should plan a meet-up somewhere on the 30th. I see that there are several others in town then including Kermit for his birthday! I have never met any of these folks so I'd be great to do that. Thanks again for sharing your "knowledge of the solids" with me. Let's keep hoping that the volcano gods smile upon us

I will implode if my flight is delayed...
On the nepalese, its a love affair going back to my travels there. Plus I think its the cleanest and most satisfying hit (for me) without a ceiling if you get the right stuff. From recent postings the 'mexican ice' from Bluebird does indeed looks like its the nuts, its also on my sub-cherry list too. In fact to be really sad about this I will cut and paste my ideal shopping list later if I get a chance and you can see what Im heading towards. As always it never goes to plan which is cool, but there are certain things/places I need to see for my own sanity because they get talked about so much ( eg. basjoes, Hunters, Stix temple ball (and Hunters and anydays Templeball and coffeeshops), some of the heavy indicas - headband/medicinal leaf, og kush from Greenplace etc, all untried by lill ol me
As you say its a fine balancing act knowing how far to go each sitting as it were, and a wipe out too early on can ruin a session, on the other hand if you dont push it then you dont get to reach the higher plane....I just know that when ive been on my own in dam it needs a lot more restraint because its so easy to smoke a few spliffs on your own and then be beyond help socially, and then what do you do etc etc...what worked for me last trip with my girlfriend was to not sit for hours in one place, thats when the monging seems to take over, but then again sometimes when you get a good seat/sofa with a bit of a view its hard to see a reason to move on. So my wish list this trip also has a small section from a posting recently discussing the most comfy coffeeshops...
On the 30th if at all possible it would be better for me to start the mayhem earlier than nightime as its our last evening - its a fine line between freedom and neglect!, but obviously see what your plans are/schedule and let me know what might work nearer the time..it would be good to share the goodies though so hopefully we can make a working plan

Hey TB,
I've been to Basjoe's and Hunters; both are cool shops. At Hunters I just stopped in for a drink and a quick smoke while waiting for the Canal bus. I was flush with weed at the time (more than I could finish during the trip actually,) so I didn't buy anything there. I hear great things about their weed though and have a note to try their 100% sativa but you know how plans go. I am never too disappointed when my Amsterdam plans don't quite pan out either as I so thoroughly enjoy making them. My trip is more than a month away but I have been enjoying it ever since I started planning
Basjoes is really nice shop as well. I went there due to all the great buzz about the shop on here and to get some of their Orange Bud. I walked up to a black man behind the bud counter and asked "Are you James?" after introductions and hand shakes I told him that I heard tons of great things about the shop on the internet and from that moment on he treated me like a friend. The Orange Bud was okay as was the Cheese I bought on my second visit but I think I would like any shop with someone as cool as James behind the counter.
Meeting up earlier on the 30th is fine with me. We can set plans later but I should be able to meet by 2pm or anytime after. Hell, I may have my first smoke of the trip with you if we meet that early as I will just be getting into town around noon. Since I will have two weeks stretched out before me and you will need to depart the next day, we can meet at your convenience as far as I'm concerned.
I think that aside from my hash education, the theme of my trip will be to mainly explore the hazes and sativa-dominants with taste and smell being more important to me than potency. I'll probably start off with some Thai or Jamaican - whatever looks/smells the nicest - and then move on to the stronger stuff (I will make an exception to smoke some hash with you though should we meet - f*ck the "training wheels".) Having said this I also want to try that OG Kush as some say it is similar to the Kushes that seem to be all the rage out in CA from what I have read. This will be strictly late night stuff, probably back at the apartment as I think it will make me pleasantly catatonic (that whole "beyond help socially" thing you mentioned)
